The US Coast Guard was continuing its search off Cancun today for a missing passenger from the Norwegian Pearl, a spokesman confirmed. Thirty-six-year-old Jennifer Seitz was believed to have fallen overboard at about 8 p.m. on Christmas Day. The ship was on a seven-day western Caribbean Christmas cruise.

Mexican Navy vessels were also searching for the woman.

Norwegian Cruise Line representatives said they were preparing a new statement on the incident.

According to various press reports, Seitz’s husband reported her missing early Friday. “After searching the ship, crew members contacted Mexican and US authorities for help,” according to a US Coast Guard statement.

The US Coast Guard launched a C-130 airplane on Saturday to scour the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. On Friday it deployed an HU-25 Falcon jet crew to search for the woman.

The ship arrived back in Miami on Sunday, and according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, FBI agents met the vessel at the pier and searched the couple’s cabin for clues to her disappearance. The newspaper also reported that passengers aboard the Norwegian Pearl were not notified anything was amiss – there were no public announcements of the disappearance.

This is the second time Norwegian Cruise Line has been faced with a missing passenger this year. Mindy Jordan, 46, of New Jersey, went missing on a Mother’s Day cruise to Bermuda in May.
