Chanel, the world’s oldest dog, has died

Every dog has its day – and for Chanel, the wiry-haired dachshund who held the Guinness World Record for oldest dog, her last day finally came.

The adorable pooch, who celebrated her 21st birthday this year, passed away on Friday.

Owners Karl and Denice Shaughnessy said that although their aging canine wore “doggles” for cataracts and got cold easily, Chanel had plenty of life left in her.

“The vet says he’s never seen a dog her age do so much,” Shaughnessy said in May.

Chanel gained notoriety this past spring after an appearance on the Today show where she was presented with an official certificate as the world’s oldest living pooch.

She will be listed in the 2010 edition of Guinness World Records, scheduled for publication this October.
