BeautifulPeople.com, a dating site for the gorgeous
An exclusive online dating website that attempts to weed out unattractive members, allowing only the beautiful through the door, launched in China and several other countries on Oct 25th.
Prospective members of the BeautifulPeople site submit a picture and profile, and other members of the opposite sex rate the applicant over a 72-hour period, deciding whether they’re worthy of joining the elite community.
The online service even goes so far as to advertise a ban on ugliness. The site that says that only 20% of those who are apply are approved for membership. Although applying for the service is free, members are not allowed to interact until existing members have voted on their physical appeal.
Beautiful People founder, Robert Hintze, says: “BeautifulPeople.com is governed by the principle that every human being wants to be with someone they find attractive – its human nature. By only allowing beautiful people through our doors, we remove the first hurdle.”
Other online dating services exist in China, but most young Chinese rely on personal introductions to potential marriage partners. In the countryside, men usually have to pay a large sum of money to the potential bride’s family.
Beautiful People currently boasts a worldwide membership of 180,000 members through existing networks in the UK, US, Denmark, Japan, Spain, Italy, Canada and Australia. In addition to China, the service is now available in France, Germany, India and Russia. The site features multiple language options to help international users navigate the menus.
Greg Hodge, managing director of Beautiful People, adds: “People are fed up wasting time and money meeting unattractive people on the net. Until we launched, there was no online networking or dating service exclusively for the beautiful. With BeautifulPeople.com there is no riff raff to sort through. Everyone on there is … beautiful.”
