NFL Week 14 Odds: Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers know they have to win out to have a shot at a playoff spot and that’s looking very unlikely with the likelihood that Aaron Rodgers will sit out again Sunday with his collarbone injury. The Pack are winless since Rodgers went down and he’s probably not going to return this season if they lose Sunday against disappointing Atlanta. There is no line yet because of Rodgers’ status.
Rodgers did return to practice this week but hasn’t been cleared to play. Rodgers underwent x-rays and a CT scan earlier this week and the scan did not result in him being medically cleared for game action. Thu s Matt Flynn is expected to get the chance to redeem himself after a horrendous Thanksgiving Day showing.
After completing just 10 of 20 passes for 139 yards with no touchdowns, one interception, one lost fumble and seven sacks (including one for a safety) for a passer rating of 51.9 in the Packers’ embarrassing 40-10 loss to the Lions at Ford Field, Flynn took all the starter’s reps in practice this week. The Packers’ 11 offensive series against Detroit spanned only 42 plays, garnered only 126 net yards and ended in six punts (including five three-and-outs), two fumbles, an interception, a safety and Mason Crosby’s 54-yard field goal.
Atlanta led the NFC with 13 wins last year but has just three this year. The Falcons did win last week, rallying from 14 points down to beat Buffalo in overtime. Matt Ryan been sacked a career-high 30 times and has been hit countless other times. In the past two games alone — against the Saints and Bills — Ryan was sacked 11 times. Ryan, has failed to surpass 200 yards in any of his four career games against Green Bay, and has five interceptions and five touchdowns in those matchups.
Including two playoff meetings (1995 and 2002 seasons), the Packers and Falcons have met nine times before at Lambeau Field, with Green Bay holding a 5-4 edge at the stadium. The teams also squared off five times in Milwaukee between 1966-1994, including the last NFL game played in the city on Dec. 18, 1994, a 21-17 Green Bay win.
The Packers hold a 15-13 edge in the all-time series (including playoffs). Green Bay topped the Falcons, 48-21, at the Georgia Dome in a 2010 NFC Divisional playoff game (Jan. 15, 2011) on its way to a Super Bowl XLV title. This will be just the second time that the Falcons have played a regular-season game at Lambeau Field in December or January, with the only other instance coming on Dec. 21, 1975, a 22-13 Green Bay win in the season finale in 12-degree weather.
The Packers enter Sunday’s contest having won 12 consecutive regular-season games at Lambeau Field that were played Dec. 1 or later, the longest current home winning streak in the league in games played in December/January. San Francisco’s 11-game winning streak at home in games played Dec. 1 or later is the No. 2 current mark in the league.

Packers’ Aaron Rodgers could miss rest of the season
The Green Bay Packers’ playoff hopes are on life support after Thursday’s loss in Detroit, with Coach Mike McCarthy admitting the Pack (5-6-1) likely need to win out to have a chance. However, it looks like star QB Aaron Rodgers will miss yet another game in Week 14 and there’s talk that Green Bay may just punt on the season and sit Rodgers for good.
Since Rodgers broke his collarbone in Week 8, the Packers have been in a freefall, losing four games since and tying one, putting them on the cusp of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Though Rodgers practiced for the first time last week, he didn’t play in the team’s Thanksgiving loss to the Lions, and the team is worried Rodgers won’t be ready to play in Week 14 — which apparently was his target return date all along.
The Packers have struggled to fill the void left by Rodgers, with Scott Tolzien, Matt Flynn and Seneca Wallace all playing poorly when given the chance to play the past few weeks. Rodgers was rolling with a 108.0 quarterback rating with 15 touchdowns and 4 interceptions before his injury. When he left the field on Nov. 4, the Packers had a 3-0 lead over the Bears. They were running the ball and stopping the run better than they had at any time since before their Super Bowl season of 2010. The Packers were on a four-game winning streak.
If Rodgers can’t play and it appears as though Green Bay is out of the playoff race, NFL.com reports it’s possible the Packers will sit down Rodgers for the rest of the season so he can’t do any further damage to his collarbone. Plus it might make some sense to land the best draft pick possible in a stacked 2014 class and come back better than ever next year.
Not only is Green Bay trailing NFC North leader Detroit (7-5) by 1½ games, the Packers have never reached the playoffs with a sub-.500 record after 12 games since the NFL expanded the schedule to 16 games in 1978.
Green Bay faces a struggling Falcons team in Week 14 then finishes at Dallas, home to Pittsburgh and at Chicago. So the Pack could theoretically help the playoff hopes of the Cowboys, Steelers and Bears if they do indeed shut down Rodgers.
NFL Week 13 Odds: Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions
It’s a huge game in the NFC North on Thanksgiving Day’s first of three NFL games as the Detroit Lions look to stay atop the division and end a nine-game losing streak on Turkey Day when they host Green Bay.
Green Bay quarterback Matt Flynn, playing in relief, led the Packers back from a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit in the team’s 26-26 tie against Minnesota. It was the first-ever NFL tie to end on that exact score. Flynn passed for 480 yards and six touchdowns – both franchise records since tied by Aaron Rodgers – in his last start against the Lions (January 1, 2012). At 5-5-1, the Packers are just a half-game behind Chicago (6-5) and Detroit (6-5) in the NFC North. Rodgers is not expected to play against the Lions even though he returned to practice on Tuesday.
The Lions, who will play their 74th Thanksgiving Day game, dropped a 24-21 decision to Tampa Bay last week. Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson has 861 receiving yards in his past five games, the most in any five-game span in a season in NFL history.
Bad blood has existed recently between the two teams. Two years ago on Thanksgiving, Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was ejected after stomping on the arm of Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith.
“They go after quarterbacks,” Packers guard Josh Sitton said this week. “Their entire defense takes cheap shots all the time. That’s what they do. That’s who they are. They’re a bunch of dirtbags or scumbags. That’s how they play, and that’s how they’re coached. It starts with their frickin’ coach. It starts with the head coach, Schwartz. He’s a d—, too. I wouldn’t want to play for him. It starts with him, and their D-coordinator and their D-line coach. They’re all just scumbags and so are the D-line.”
Green Bay beat Detroit 22-9 in Week 5 but Rodgers played in that game. Rodgers was 20 for 30 for 274 yards, and Eddie Lacy ran for 99 yards on 23 carries in his return from a concussion. The Packers defense contained Reggie Bush and took advantage of an offense playing without Johnson, who had missed a couple days of practice last week with a knee injury.
This will mark the 21st all-time meeting between the clubs on Thanksgiving, with the Lions holding an 11-8-1 edge in the series on the holiday. Green Bay and Detroit first met on Thanksgiving in 1951 and went on to meet on the holiday in 13 consecutive seasons (1951-63). No two teams have faced off on Thanksgiving more than the Packers and the Lions, with Detroit and Chicago ranking No. 2 with 15 meetings.
The Packers emerged victorious in each of the last three meetings with the Lions on Thanksgiving, winning games in 2007, 2009 and 2011. Green Bay’s current three-game winning streak in Thanksgiving contests is tied for the longest in franchise history (league games only), matching the Packers’ three-game winning streak on Thanksgiving from 1930-32 (victories against the Frankford Yellow Jackets, Providence Steam Roller and Brooklyn Dodgers).
Green Bay has a 14-1 mark (.933) against the Lions under Head Coach Mike McCarthy, which is tied with New England (14-1 vs. Buffalo) for the best winning percentage by a team vs. a divisional foe since 2006. Dating back further, the Packers have won 15 of the last 16 against Detroit and 23 of the last 26 in the series.

NFL Week 12 Odds: Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
Without Aaron Rodgers the Green Bay Packers have lost three in a row and have fallen outside the current playoff chase. Another loss Sunday to the Vikings would drop the Pack under .500 and all but kill their postseason hopes as they play without Rodgers again.
The Packers starting QB for the second week in a row is Scott Tolzien. Last week in a 27-13 loss to the Giants, Tolzien was 6-for-6 on long downfield throws against the Giants, all of which went for gains of 25 yards or more. Tolzien also had five other completions of at least 15 yards. The Giants’ focus on the Packers’ running game opened up some of those downfield passes for Tolzien, but his accuracy with them is perhaps the biggest plus he can take into this Sunday’s matchup with Minnesota, which has struggled to defend the pass all season. Tolzien has five interceptions in two games, the most damaging coming in the fourth quarter against the Giants. With a winnable game against the reeling Vikings, the pressure is on the Packers’ offense to score more than the 13 points it has averaged the past two weeks. The Packers have scored just two touchdowns on their past nine trips inside the 20.
Minnesota was routed 41-20 last week in Seattle. Seattle put the game away with a pair of fourth-quarter turnovers on poor decisions by Minnesota QB Christian Ponder. He threw behind Adrian Peterson and was intercepted by Bobby Wagner. Three passes later, Ponder threw into the belly of Walter Thurmond and he returned the interception 29 yards for his first career touchdown. Ponder finished 13 of 22 for 129 yards, one TD and a lost fumble. Peterson was held to 65 yards on 21 carries after running for 182 against Seattle last year. Ponder will get the start again this week.
Through 106 meetings, which includes two postseason contests (1-1), the Packers hold a 56-49-1 edge over the Vikings in the all-time series. Look for a close one, however, as 16 of the last 22 regular-season meetings between the clubs have been decided by seven points or less.
Including Green Bay’s win against Minnesota in last year’s playoffs, the Packers have won seven of the last eight games between the teams. Green Bay has won four straight against the Vikings at Lambeau Field. The Packers have scored 30-plus points in five of their last six regular-season games against Minnesota, averaging 35.0 points per game over that span. That included a 44-point outing at Minnesota earlier this season in Week 8, the most points ever scored by Green Bay at the Metrodome, and a 45-point effort at Lambeau Field in 2011.
WAGERWEB ODDS: Packers -4.5 (44)

NFL Week 11 Odds: Green Bay Packers at New York Giants
Life without Aaron Rodgers has not been good to the Green Bay Packers as they have lost two straight games and now turn to former third-stringer Scott Tolzien on Sunday at a Giants team that has won three straight after starting 0-6.
The Pack lost 27-13 last week at home to the Eagles, Green Bay’s first back-to-back home losses since 2008. Tolzien played well considering he was just signed off the practice squad early last week. He finished 24 of 39 for 280 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Tolzien’s biggest mistake came early in the second quarter, when he marched the Packers from their 18 into the red zone, only to be intercepted by Brandon Boykin in end zone on an underthrown ball to Jordy Nelson. At the time, the Eagles were only leading 7-0.
Tolzien, who only got into the game because No. 2 Seneca Wallace injured his groin, moved the offense well enough that Coach Mike McCarthy named him the starter for Giants game. The Giants have pieced together game film of Tolzien, digging deep to identify tendencies and any other tells they can glean from previous performances in order to better prepare for the Packers’ offense. Tolzien has taken a unique path to facing the Giants. He went undrafted out of Wisconsin in 2011, and was cut by the San Diego Chargers during training camp. He was claimed by the 49ers but never played in two seasons there and got cut again on Aug. 27.
The Giants beat Oakland 24-20 last week. Terrell Thomas returned an interception 65 yards to set up a go-ahead 1-yard touchdown run by Andre Brown. He ran for 115 yards on 30 carries. The error-prone Giants (3-6) fed off their defense, which limited a banged up Terrelle Pryor and the Raiders to 213 yards in total offense.
Sunday’s game was originally scheduled to be a prime-time matchup, but was shifted to a late-afternoon time slot through the league’s flexible scheduling. This will be the fourth straight season that the Packers and Giants have faced off in the regular season, the first time that has happened in the series since 1980-83. New York routed Green Bay at home last season.
Green Bay holds a 31-25-2 edge in the all-time series, which includes a 4-3 postseason record. The teams first met in 1928 in New York. Green Bay has won two straight road games entering Sunday’s contest, with victories at Baltimore in Week 6 and Minnesota in Week 8. Including playoffs, the Packers have won 16 of their last 24 road games (.667).

NFL Week 10 Odds: Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers continue life without star quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Sunday as they host Philadelphia — this line would have opened as Green Bay as a 9.5-point favorite with Rodgers but is down to one without arguably the NFL’s best quarterback.
Green Bay lost 27-20 at home to Chicago on Monday night after Rodgers was lost to a broken left collarbone. He will miss between 3-6 weeks. Can Wallace – who has 21 starts in 10 NFL seasons and was out of football last year – do enough to keep the Packers atop an NFC North race that got a lot messier Monday night? Wallace is 5-16 as a starter with the Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns, who cut him at the end of camp last year. His last win came more than three years ago on Oct. 3, 2010, with the Browns, who cut him before last season. On Monday, Wallace fnished 11-of-19 passing for 114 yards with an interception. He also took four sacks, including a decision-sealer on the final drive.
Packers receiver Receiver James Jones and linebacker Brad Jones returned Monday night. Linebacker Clay Matthews (thumb) could join them this week. But tight end Jermichael Finley (neck) is out for the season, receiver Randall Cobb (leg) will miss at least five more games and the offensive line – which lost left tackle Bryan Bulaga in camp – could be without right guard T.J. Lang (concussion) against the pressuring Eagles defense.
Philly beat Oakland 49-20 last week behind an NFL record-tying seven touchdown passes from Nick Foles. The backup quarterback connected three times with Riley Cooper to become the seventh passer in NFL history with seven TD tosses in a game. Peyton Manning did it for Denver on opening night this season against Baltimore. Foles also threw scoring passes to Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson as the Eagles (4-5) looked nothing like the offense that failed to score a touchdown in each of the past two weeks.
Sunday’s contest marks the 38th time the Packers and Eagles have met in the regular season, with Green Bay holding a 24-13 edge in the series. The teams have met three times in the postseason, with Green Bay winning one of those games. Green Bay has won three straight games against the Eagles, including a 2010 Wild Card win in Philadelphia that was the start of the Packers’ run to the Super Bowl XLV title.
Sunday will be a matchup of two of the top offenses in the league this season. Green Bay ranks No. 2 in the NFL with an average of 423.0 yards per game and Philadelphia ranks No. 4 in the league with an average of 413.2 yards per game. The Packers and Eagles are the only two teams in the league to rank in the top 10 in both rushing and passing offense.
WAGERWEB ODDS: Packers -1 (47)

NFL Week 9 Odds: Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have owned the Chicago Bears for about five years, and things don’t figure to get much easier for Chicago on Monday night without injured quarterback Jay Cutler or Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs, the QB of the defense. Both will miss multiple weeks.
Cutler has never had success against the Packers, with a 54.8 passer rating, eight touchdown passes and 17 interceptions in his eight Bears starts against them. Maybe Josh McCown can change that as he gets his first start since 2011. The 24 points McCown led the offense to against Washington in a 45-41 loss Oct. 20 came when he had virtually no snaps to prepare. The bye week and an extra day of practice, due to the Monday night contest, have added to confidence McCown can hold up against the pressure Green Bay’s 3-4 defense usually brings to bear against Chicago while dominating the series in recent years.
The Packers defense has owned the Bears offense since 2008, and in that time the Bears quarterback who led the offense to its most points was McCown in Week 16 of the 2011 season, during a 35-21 loss.
Green Bay will be without receiver Randall Cobb, tight end Jermichael Finley and star linebacker Clay Matthews. It’s possible receiver James Jones could return this week but he’s questionable. The Packers extended their winning streak to four games with a 44-31 victory at Minnesota on Sunday night, the most points ever scored by Green Bay at the Metrodome. Green Bay has now had a winning streak of four or more games each of the past five seasons (2009-13), the only NFL team to do so over that span.
Monday night will mark game No. 187 in the NFL’s oldest rivalry. The Bears hold a 92-88-6 edge in the series (includes two playoff games, 1-1). The Packers have won six straight and eight of the last nine meetings against the Bears (including playoffs). Green Bay has swept the season series in three of the last four seasons (2009, 2011-12). Green Bay’s current six-game winning streak against Chicago is its longest since a seven-game streak from 2000-03.

NFL Week 8 Odds: Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings
Could Sunday night be the final game for Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier? It well could be if the Minnesota is embarrassed at home by Green Bay, a distinct possibility.
Minnesota lost 23-7 to the winless Giants on Monday night and Josh Freeman was terrible in his first start as a Viking. Then came news early this week Freeman had suffered a concussion, so the team is going back to Christian Ponder for this one. Ponder, the Vikings’ first-round draft pick in 2011, took over the starting job in the seventh game of his rookie season and held it until he suffered a fractured rib Sept. 22 against the Cleveland Browns.
Matt Cassel started the next two games, leading the Vikings to their only win on Sept. 29 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in London. But after struggling the following game, Cassel was replaced by the freshly signed Freeman, who finished 20-of-53 passing for 190 yards and an interception in Monday night’s ugly 23-7 loss to the New York Giants. Ponder completed 59% of his passes with two touchdowns, five interceptions and a 65.9 passer rating in three losses before his injury and demotion.
Going forward, Ponder plans to play more relaxed.
“I feel like I came out here running the scout team and stuff and practiced relaxed and then came out here running the first team and practiced relaxed, too,” he said. “That’s going to be big for me.”
But the Packers’ focus is squarely on getting Adrian Peterson to the turf. Peterson rushed for 210 and 199 yards in the regular-season meetings last season, then 99 yards in the Packers’ 24-10 win over the Vikings in the wild-card round of the playoffs in January. Coach Mike McCarthy said he anticipates a renewed commitment to Peterson. Since running for a season-high 140 yards in 23 carries in the Vikings’ lone win in Week 4, Peterson has only 23 total carries — 10 (for 62 yards) and 13 (for 28 yards) the last two games.
With the Packers’ 31-13 win over the Browns at Lambeau Field and losses by the Bears and Lions on Sunday, Green Bay moved into sole possession of first place in the NFC North with its 4-2 mark on the season. The Packers have won three straight games after getting off to a 1-2 start.
The Packers are 20-6 all-time in Sunday night contests, a .769 winning percentage that ranks No. 1 in NFL history. Green Bay has won seven of its last nine Sunday night games.
This will be Green Bay’s fifth Sunday night meeting against the Vikings (1990, 2002, 2003, 2010) and the first in Minnesota since ’03. Through 105 meetings, which includes two postseason games, the Packers hold a 55-49-1 advantage over the Vikings in the all-time series. Sixteen of the last 21 regular-season meetings between the clubs have been decided by seven points or less. Including Green Bay’s win over Minnesota last year in an NFC Wild Card game, the Packers have won six of the last seven games between the teams. Green Bay has won two of the last three meetings in Minnesota. The Packers have scored 30-plus points in four of their last five games against Minnesota, averaging 33.2 points per game over that span.
