NFL Week 13 Odds: Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs
The AFC West title and perhaps the top seed in the AFC playoffs is at stake on Sunday when Denver and Kansas City face off for the second time in three weeks. The Broncos still have a decent shot at the division and top seed with a loss but Kansas City doesn’t. Whichever team doesn’t win the West will be relegated to a wild-card spot and all road playoff games.
There are some key injuries to be aware of. Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno, who had career highs of 37 carries and 224 yards in an overtime loss to the New England Patriots last Sunday night, is questionable. Moreno left in overtime with a bone bruise to his right ankle but returned a few plays later and finished the game. Montee Ball is expected to get the start if Moreno doesn’t play.
On the bright side for Denver, tight end Julius Thomas (right knee), who did not play against New England, and cornerbacks Champ Bailey and Kayvon Webster (ankle) should play. Bailey has played in just two games this season.
Chiefs star pass-rusher Justin Houston could miss two to three weeks because of his injured elbow. Houston will not need surgery despite having sprained ligaments and torn muscles in his elbow. Houston, who is tied for third in the NFL with 11 sacks, suffered a dislocated elbow in last Sunday’s loss to the San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs led the Chargers, 14-3, in the first half when Houston left the game. The Chargers scored 38 points after that, including the winning touchdown with less than 30 seconds left.
The Chiefs (9-2) also could be without two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Tamba Hali for their rematch with the AFC West rival Broncos (9-2), who have the league’s top-ranked offense. Hali suffered a slight ankle sprain against San Diego. Those two have combined for 20 sacks.
Kansas City had the NFL’s top defense most of the season but have allowed at least 27 points in their past two games, the first one with Hali and Houston available for every play. The Chiefs have now played four straight games with either zero sacks or one, the first three with Hali and Houston on the field.
Denver beat visiting KC 27-17 two Sundays ago. Peyton Manning threw for 323 yards and a touchdown and was barely touched by the Kansas City Chiefs’ sack-happy defense. The Chiefs didn’t even record a hit on the quarterback.

NFL Week 12 Odds: Denver Broncos at New England Patriots
The greatest individual matchup perhaps in NFL history on Sunday night is renewed and it’s a big game as usual at Peyton Manning Broncos visit Tom Brady’s Patriots, with a potential No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs on the line.
Denver enters off a big 27-17 win against Kansas City and still has lost just one regular season game since falling 31-21 at New England early last season. Against the Chiefs, Manning threw for 323 yards and a touchdown Sunday night and was barely touched by the Kansas City Chiefs’ sack-happy defense. Manning has been dealing with a high ankle sprain and can barely move around. The Chiefs’ defense, which came into the game also leading the league in points allowed (12.8), remained stout throughout against the league’s highest-scoring offense (41.2). But eventually, Manning and Co. overwhelmed them, going 79, 65 and 62 yards for their last three scores and a 27-10 lead.
Knowshon Moreno ran for 79 yards and kept the chains moving for Denver, while Wes Welker took his turn as Manning’s favorite target, catching eight passes for 72 yards before leaving with what was later announced to be a concussion. Welker is questionable for his return to New England as he must pass the NFL’s concussion tests to be cleared. He will be warmly welcomed as he was a Pats fan favorite and one of Brady’s best friends — no one wanted to see him leave.
New England lost 24-20 at Carolina on Monday night in a controversial ending. Brady was 29 of 40 for 296 yards and one touchdown. Brady completed his first 19 passes 5 yards or less downfield Monday, finishing 19-of-20 for 139 yards and a touchdown on short throws. Brady’s 19 completions on such throws are tied for his most in one game in the last three seasons. Brady has completed 82.4% of his passes to Rob Gronkowski in their last two games after completing 45.5% in Gronkowski’s first two games of the season.
Brady is 9-4 in his career against Manning, although Manning has thrown for more yards and more touchdowns in those games. Seven of the 13 games have been decided by a touchdown or less.
This week’s game will mark the third straight season that the Patriots will play back-to-back primetimes games. In 2011, the Patriots beat the New York Jets 37- 16 on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 13 followed by a 34-3 win vs. Kansas City on Monday Night Football. Last season, the Patriots beat Houston, 42-14 on Dec. 10 on Monday Night Football and then lost to San Francisco on Sunday Night Football on Dec. 16. Since the 2010 season, the Patriots are now a combined 24-2 in the second half of the regular season. Since Bill Belichick became Patriots head coach in 2000, New England is 84-22 in the second half of the season.
The Patriots are 19-16 all-time on Sunday Night Football. New England is 11-6 at home and 6-4 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday Night Football. The Patriots are 1-0 on Sunday Night Football in 2013 after a 30-23 win at Atlanta on Sept. 29. This will mark Denver’s third straight visit to New England, including a 45-10 Patriots win in the 2011 AFC Divisional playoffs — when Tim Tebow was the Broncos QB — and last season’s 31-21 win on Oct. 7, 2012.

NFL Week 11 Odds: Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
It’s arguably the biggest game of the NFL season thus far with first place in the AFC West and potential home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs on the line when the Broncos look to hand Kansas City its first loss of the season.
The Broncos (8-1) are the highest-scoring team in the league, so much so that not only are they the only team in the league averaging at least 40 points a game — 41.2 after nine games — but they are the only team in the league averaging at least 30 points a game. The Chiefs (9-0) have the league’s best record, remain the NFL’s only undefeated team and lead the league in several major defensive categories, including fewest points allowed per game (12.3), sacks (36) and turnover margin (plus-15). The two teams have played weak schedules for the most part. They are a combined 17-0 against teams that do not currently have a winning record this season.
Denver beat San Diego 28-20 last week. With interim coach Jack Del Rio in charge, Peyton Manning threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns, three to Demaryius Thomas, as he efficiently led the Broncos to a win in their first game since head coach John Fox had his aortic valve replaced. He will be out again this week but may attend in a non-working capacity.
Manning injured his ankle during the game but will start. After an MRI on Monday came back clean, it was reported that Manning “absolutely” would play. He has missed practice, however. His backup, Brock Osweiler, has been taking the first-team reps. Osweiler, 22, has barely played since he was a second-round pick from Arizona State in 2012. He has completed only 2-of-3 passes for 10 yards this season.
The Chiefs, who were swept by Denver last season during their 2-14 campaign, have been off since beating Buffalo 23-13 on Nov. 3. One of the most remarkable aspects of Andy Reid’s NFL coaching career is his record the week after the bye. During his 14 seasons as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs’ Reid was 13-1 in the game after a bye week. Reid won his first 13 games after a bye until last season when, with his worst Philadelphia team, the Eagles lost to the Atlanta Falcons. Reid won regular-season games at a .583 pace in Philadelphia, nothing close to his .929 winning percentage after the bye.
Reid’s teams have defeated some good teams after a bye. In 1999, Reid’s first season, the Eagles beat the eventual Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams. In 2002, they beat another eventual Super Bowl championship team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
WAGERWEB ODDS: Broncos -9.5 (49.5)

NFL Week 10 Odds: Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers
The Denver Broncos don’t want to get caught looking ahead to next week’s game with AFC West-leading and unbeaten Kansas City or they will lose in San Diego, where the Chargers already have beaten good teams like Dallas and Indianapolis.
It’s terrific matchup of quarterbacks in Denver’s Peyton Manning and the Chargers’ Philip Rivers. Manning is the MVP favorite, leading the NFL in passer rating (119.4), yards (2,919), touchdowns (29) and completions (237) and second in completion percentage (71.2) and average yards per pass (8.77). Denver’s offense this season has been one of the most prolific in NFL history. The Broncos rank first in yards per game (466.4), passing yards per game (358.5) and points per game (42.9). In fact, their 42.9 average is 12.9 points higher than the second highest scoring offense in the league.
Rivers leads the league with a 72.2 percent completion percentage, which would break Drew Brees’ NFL record 71.2 percent completion rate set in 2011. He also ranks third in league with a 106.5 passer rating, fourth in touchdowns with 19, fourth in average yards per pass with 8.38 and is tied for fifth in completions with 213. Rivers is on pace for a 4,946-yard campaign, which would mark the first time in his career that he has averaged more than 300 yards per game. His career high is 4,710 yards, which averages out to 294.4 yards per game.
Antonio Gates heads into Sunday’s game against the Broncos with 690 career catches, 10 shy of 700. Should he reach 700 against the Broncos in his 156th-career game, Gates would become the third fastest tight end in NFL history to reach the 700-career catch plateau.
Defensively, the Bolts rank 28th in total defense (393.8 ypg), 27th in passing (275.4 ypg), 23rd in rushing (118.4 ypg) and 11th in points allowed (21.8). Denver ranks 24th in total defense (380.6 ypg), 30th in passing (299.1 ypg), third in rushing (81.5 ypg) and 25th in points allowed (27.2).
The Chargers and Broncos renew their storied rivalry that sees Denver leading 57-48-1. Denver has won three straight, including a sweep of last year’s meetings (35-24 in San Diego and 30-23 in Denver). Prior to that, the Chargers won four straight from 2009-11. The Chargers are 31-21 all-time in games played between the two teams in San Diego.

NFL Week 8 Odds: Washington Redskins at Denver Broncos
It’s arguably the marquee matchup of Week 8 in Denver on Sunday afternoon when Robert Griffin III and Peyton Manning face off for the first and perhaps only time in their careers with Manning in the twilight of his.
Washington enters off a 45-41 win over Chicago. Griffin completed 18 of 29 passes for 298 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, and he also ran 11 times for a season-high 84 yards. Roy Helu rushed for three scores, and third-round rookie tight end Jordan Reed had a breakout performance with 134 yards and a touchdown, catching all nine passes thrown his way. The Redskins’ two victories have come against backup QBs — Matt Flynn, who has since been released by the Oakland Raiders — and now Josh McCown, who entered Sunday’s game in the second quarter after Jay Cutler left with a groin injury.
Denver lost 39-33 in Manning’s homecoming to Indianapolis last week. Manning lost a fumble, threw an interception and was sacked four times — twice by Robert Mathis, one of the few remaining holdovers from the Manning era. Broncos kick returner Trindon Holliday fumbled twice, losing one that led to a Colts touchdown. While Manning finished with solid numbers, 29 of 49 for 386 yards with three TD passes, he certainly wasn’t himself. Passes fluttered, passes sailed, passes were broken up. Manning returned to practice Thursday, but has an ankle injury that might explain why so many of his passes in Indianapolis fluttered downfield and appeared to lack much zip.
The Redskins allow 262.8 passing yards per game and have issues at safety, particularly with veteran Brandon Meriweather suspended for the game. The Redskins will attempt to control the tempo with RBs Alfred Morris and Helu and play keep-away from Denver’s offense.
This is the return of Redskins coach Mike Shanahan to Denver. Shanahan coached Denver for 14 seasons, amassing a 138-86 regular-season record and leading the franchise to its only two Super Bowl championships. However, he posted a 1-4 playoff record in 10 seasons following back-to-back titles.
The teams have split 12 all-time meetings including Washington’s Super Bowl victory. The Redskins claimed a 27-17 victory in the most recent matchup in 2009.
WAGERWEB ODDS: Broncos -12.5 (57.5)

NFL Week 7 Odds: Denver Broncos at Indianapolis Colts
It’s one of the most anticipated games of the season on Sunday night when Peyton Manning returns to Indianapolis for the first time when the Broncos put their unbeaten season on the line against the Colts. Of course Manning was the first overall pick of the Colts in 1998 and led the team to two Super Bowl appearances. He missed the 2011 season, the Colts went into the toilet and earned the top pick in the 2012 draft, taking Andrew Luck No. 1 overall and letting Manning walk as a free agent. It worked out well for both the Broncos and Colts.
The team will do a tribute to Manning, who is still beloved in Indy, before the game. He had a 141-67 regular-season record for the Colts, passing for 54,828 yards with 399 touchdowns and a 94.9 passer rating as well as guiding Indy to the playoffs 11 times, including a victory in Super Bowl XLI. Manning has been even better with Denver and leads the NFL with 2,179 passing yards, 22 touchdowns — the most ever through the first six games of a season — and a 128.8 passer rating this year. Denver is on pace to shatter the NFL scoring record but has beaten six teams with a combined record of 11-25. Manning will face his toughest defensive test through the first seven weeks. The Colts (4-2) rank fifth in pass defense (205.7) and scoring defense (16.3).
The Broncos have won a franchise-record 17 straight regular-season games, which is the fourth longest win streak in the NFL history. They also get back linebacker Von Miller this week off suspension — he had 18 sacks a year ago.
The Colts have beaten NFC heavyweights San Francisco and Seattle already but enter off an ugly 19-9 loss Monday night at San Diego. Luck went 18 for 30 for 202 yards with an interception. The Colts went 2 for 10 on third down after going 31 for 62 in their previous five games. The Colts dropped four passes Monday night, tied for their most in a game this season, and two of those four drops were on 3rd down. The Colts have six 3rd-down drops this year, tied for the most in the league, and five of those drops have been in the last two weeks.
It is Luck who has had more success to start his career than Manning. Through 22 career starts, Luck has more game-winning drives in the 4th quarter or overtime (9) than Manning had wins (7) through his first 22 starts.

NFL Week 6 Odds: Jacksonville Jaguars at Denver Broncos
It’s the biggest point spread in NFL history on Sunday when the rampaging Denver Broncos face a Jacksonville Jaguars team that looks like it could go winless. The previous spread record was when Pittsburgh was a 26-point favorite over expansion Tampa Bay on Dec. 5. Pittsburgh won that game 42-0.
The Broncos (5-0) are averaging 46.0 points this season and allowing 34.2. The Jaguars (0-5) are scoring just 10.2 points per game allowing 32.6. The Jaguars have TOTALED 51 points this season through five games — the same amount the Broncos scored Sunday against the Cowboys.
Jacksonville will use backup QB Chad Henne in this game. Blaine Gabbert has dealt with injuries all season and will miss his third start of the year. On the season, Henne has completed just 55 percent of his passes and thrown for 601 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. In his two starts in 2013 he’s thrown for over 200 yards twice, with just a single touchdown and two interceptions. Henne has nine 300-yard games in 39 starts. Gabbert has one and has thrown for more than 250 yards only one other time in 27 starts. Henne will likely put up big yardage against the Broncos, mainly because the Jaguars are going to be playing catch-up to Peyton Manning pretty quickly.
In last week’s 51-48 shootout win over Dallas, Peyton Manning threw for 414 yards and four touchdowns. His 20 TD passes are the most in NFL history through five games. The Broncos have 230 points this season — the most by an NFL team through the first five games. The Broncos have also won 16 consecutive regular-season games.
With their 51-point outburst Sunday, the Broncos became the fourth team in NFL history to score 50 points in consecutive games. No team has ever done it three straight times.

NFL Week 5 Odds: Denver Broncos at Dallas Cowboys
Can anyone stop the Denver Broncos? They are averaging nearly 45 points per game and on pace to obliterate the NFL record for points in a season. Denver quarterback Peyton Manning has 16 touchdown passes, the most through the first four games of a season in NFL history. With three touchdowns passes on Sunday against the Cowboys, Manning will set the record for the most TD passes through the first five games of a season in NFL history.
Manning is playing the best football of his career at age 37, leading the league in completion percentage (75.0), yards (1,470) and touchdowns (16) without throwing an interception. Manning has been sacked only five times, second-fewest among starting quarterbacks. Three Denver receivers rank among the league’s top 15 in catches.
The Broncos are averaging 44.8 points, easily a league high, but they’ll face a much-improved defense coordinated by Monte Kiffin. Dallas ranks 11th in points allowed (21.2) but 27th against the pass (304.5 yards per game).
Dallas has given up 10 passing touchdowns, tied for most in the league, and just got shredded for 401 passing yards by Philip Rivers. That doesn’t bode well for the Cowboys defense Sunday. Even if the defense struggles, Tony Romo (8 TDs, 1 INT) is capable of keeping the Cowboys close in a shootout.
DeMarco Murray ran for 70 yards against the Chargers and is third in the league with 356 on the season, but Denver is allowing a league-low 74.0 rushing yards per game. The Broncos are 30th with an average of 316.3 passing yards allowed.
Denver has won four straight meetings with Dallas, taking the most recent one 17-10 on Oct. 4, 2009.
