Venus and Serena Williams win doubles title

The Williams sisters have won the U.S. Open women’s doubles title, two days after Serena’s ugly exit in the singles semifinals.

Serena teamed with her older sister, Venus, to defeat defending champions Cara Black and Liezel Huber 6-2, 6-2 on Monday for their 10th career Grand Slam doubles title and first at Flushing Meadows since 1999.

They are 10-0 in Grand Slam finals.

The match began about a half-hour after issued an apology for the profanity-laced tirade she directed at a line judge who called her for a foot fault Saturday night against Kim Clijsters.

The foot fault, on a second serve, led to match point, and the point penalty Williams received for her reaction ended the match. She was fined $10,000 for the outburst on Sunday.
