It’s rare we preview an MLS game here on WagerWeb.com, but tonight’s L.A. Galaxy at New York Red Bulls match isn’t any ordinary game as it marks the season debut of off his loan to .

Beckham had to answer many questions this week about “The Beckham Experiment,” a book that was released this week and features several comments critical of Beckham by Alexi Lalas, the Galaxy’s former president, and Landon Donovan, the Galaxy’s current American star. They criticized Beckham’s commitment and leadership with the Galaxy, as well as the involvement of his managers in the club’s operations.

“I intend to stay until the end of my contract and maybe further,” Beckham said this week about his plans with the Galaxy. “I’ve always said that. I’ve always said, even when I went to Milan, that I’m committed to the Galaxy and to MLS, and that hasn’t changed.”

Indeed, Beckham made it clear that he has to either return to once the MLS season ends in November or join another top-flight club so that he can remain in contention to play for England during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Donovan said he was sorry for the fuss that his honestly stated opinions in the book caused, including describing last season as “miserable” and saying he wanted to see Beckham benched if he was not going to show some effort.

“Landon apologized,” Beckham said. “I told him our view of things. We’re both men. We don’t take it on the field. Now we go play our soccer.”

Coach Bruce Arena met with both Beckham and Donovan separately before they met themselves.

“Our actions are going to speak volumes,” Arena said. “You’ll see by the way we interact with each other.”

As for the match itself, it’s between two losing teams. The Galaxy, however, have won three in a row and are back in contention in the Western Conference. New York has not won since May 8, going 0-8-2. A big crowd is expected at Giants Stadium tonight to see Beckham, so perhaps he still does matter to American soccer.
