Why, Patrick Kane, why?
Let’s say you make $875,000 a year? Are you really going to quibble over 20 cents?
Reportedly, that’s what Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane did over the weekend, and he might face jail time for his bad decision now. While in Buffalo, Kane, 20, and his cousin, James Kane, 21, are alleged to have punched cab driver Jan Radecki early Sunday morning and taken back money they had given him after the driver told them he didn’t have 20 cents in coins to give them change, according to the Buffalo police report.
The report said the fare was $13.80 and the two Kanes had paid the driver $15. The cabdriver said he was punched in the face, grabbed by the throat and his glasses were broken in the argument with the Kanes.
Radecki told reporters: “They broke my glasses, they ripped my clothes … all over 20 cents.”
Kane and his relative were arrested about 5 a.m. after leaving Chippewa Street, an area in Buffalo known for its nightlife. The police report said the Kanes were picked up by Radecki while downtown around 4 a.m. After driving them to Eastwood Place, a residential street a few miles away, the altercation occurred and a witness called police.

“One guy pays and the other guy grabs me by the throat. Patrick Kane. Turns out to be a hockey player. I didn’t know who they were,” the 62-year-old cabdriver told TV stations in Buffalo.
Radecki had initially locked the doors and refused to let the men out until they paid, owing to bad experiences with “college kids,” he said.
The Kanes were charged with second-degree robbery, a Class C felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services, both Class A misdemeanors. They were released on their own recognizance after pleading not guilty to the charges.
Patrick Kane, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft, was an All-Star starter in his second year last season and helped lead Chicago into the playoffs for the first time in seven years and the Western Conference Finals for the first time in 14 years.
“We are aware of the allegations toward Patrick Kane,” Chicago said in a released statement. “He is a big part of our organization and a team leader and we stand behind him. As we are still collecting all the facts, it would be premature to comment further at this time.”
Obviously if Kane is suspended for any amount of time, that’s a crushing blow to the Blackhawks, who already have lost Marian Hossa for a few months. But it’s a little premature to speculate on the next NHL season.

Even if Patrick Kane was drunk at the time, i don’t think that will help him if the cab driver presses charges
