Friday NHL odds: Anaheim Ducks at Dallas Stars

There is just one NHL game on Friday night, and it features one of the hottest teams in the NHL, the Ducks, as they visit Dallas. This opened as a pick’em on WagerWeb.com. Check our current lines.

Anaheim (7-1-1) enters off a 3-0 win Colorado on Wednesday. Swedish rookie Viktor Fasth stopped 31 shots for his first NHL shutout, and Francois Beauchemin scored in his 500th career game. Fasth, 30, has been quite a find for the Ducks since he signed as a free agent during the offseason. According to the Ducks, Fasth is the first goaltender in NHL history over the age of 30 to win his first four games. In his first four NHL appearances, he’s stopped 101 of 105 shots for a microscopic 0.98 goals-against average and a robust .962 save percentage.

Coach Bruce Boudreau said normal No. 1 Jonas Hiller will be playing “very soon” so that could come against Dallas but Fasth is bidding to cut even further into the playing time of Hiller (3-1-1, 3.54 GAA, .871 save percentage).

The Stars (5-5-1) won 3-2 in overtime at Edmonton on Wednesday. Jaromir Jagr, 40, scored 1:46 into the extra period to give Dallas its for first winning streak of the season. Jagr beat goalie Devan Dubnyk with a high wrist shot for his third goal of the year. Jamie Benn and Derek Roy scored in regulation for the Stars, who have won two in a row. It was Jagr’s NHL-record 17th career overtime goal. If he scores in this game, he’ll break a tie with Luc Robitaille and move into sole possession of 10th place on the all-time goal-scoring list with No. 669.

Dallas D Alex Goligoski was a surprise healthy scratch. Goligoski is the Stars’ highest-paid defenseman at $4.2 million and is second on the team’s payroll behind Benn.

This is the first of five meetings between these Pacific Division rivals. The Stars took five of six on the 2011-12 schedule, with Michael Ryder and Goligoski scoring three goals apiece and Kari Lehtonen posting a pair of shutouts. Saku Koivu led the Ducks with three goals.
