Closer look at Seattle Seahawks’ 2009 schedule
There may not have been a more disappointing team in the NFL last year than the Seattle Seahawks. Mike Holmgren’s final season on the sideline was a disaster, as injuries ravaged the receiving corps and QB Matt Hasselbeck struggled when he wasn’t hurt.
Jim Mora Jr. is the new head coach, and the team added T.J. Houshmandzadeh from the Bengals to a badly-in-need group of receivers. But is that enough to turn the Seahawks around from 4-12 last year? Probably not.
Seattle’s strength of schedule this season is 24th in the league, with the Seahawks’ opponents combining for a .457 winning percentage last year. At least they get to open at home for only the third time since 2000. But the club also has three consecutive road games for the third time in team history and first since 2000. Clearly the networks don’t think much of Seattle’s chances this year consider the team does not have a nationally-televised primetime game scheduled for the first time since 1983.
A road loss to Buffalo set an ominous tone to the team’s 2008 season. Getting the rebuilding Rams at home in the opener gives the Seahawks a much better chance to start quickly. The Week 2 game against San Francisco is the first meeting between 49ers coach Mike Singletary and Mora. This game also will serve as a homecoming for Mora, who was a secondary coach for the 49ers from 1997-98, and served as defensive coordinator from 1999-2003.

Arizona ended Seattle’s four-year run as NFC West champs last year, and Seattle sees the Super Bowl runners-up for the first time in Week 6. The Seahawks lost both meetings last year.
Seattle is +225 to win the NFC West on WagerWeb.com and +4000 to win Super Bowl XLIV.
