Closer look at Philadelphia Eagles’ 2009 schedule
The Eagles made a surprising run to the NFC Championship Game in 2008, but they will be challenged to repeat that feat in 2009 as they have the toughest schedule (by opponents’ 2008 records) in the tough NFC East.
Philly’s road schedule is a definite beast, as it faces eight opponents that were a combined 75-58 overall and 46-21 at home last season. The Eagles play three division champions – the Giants, Chargers and Panthers – on the road as well as Atlanta, which went 7-1 at home last year.
Take away Oakland from the road foes, and the Eagles’ other seven road opponents were a combined 44-15 at home in 2008.
However, it’s not inconceivable that Philly could run the table at home. The Giants, Cowboys and Bucs are the only teams to visit Philly that had a winning record last year. The combined overall record of the Eagles’ home opponents was 63-66 and the road record of those eight teams was a combined 25-39.
Former safety Brian Dawkins returns with the Denver Broncos on Dec. 27. The Eagles’ lone Monday night game is Oct. 26 at Washington.
The Eagles finish the regular season against Dallas for the second straight year, this time in Dallas. Last season, Philly’s 44-6 victory over the Cowboys got the Eagles into the playoffs and knocked Dallas out.
