NFL Week 17 odds: Oakland at San Diego
It’s almost assuredly the final game as Chargers head coach for Norv Turner on Sunday as it’s disappointing team hosts Oakland.
Oakland lost 17-6 at Carolina last week. Matt Leinart replaced an injured Carson Palmer for Oakland in the first quarter and completed 16-of-32 passes for 115 yards with an interception. Terrelle Pryor also made a limited appearance for the Raiders (4-11). He caught one pass for 22 yards, rushed for two yards and completed a 5-yard pass in Oakland’s seventh loss in eight games. Palmer won’t play this week, with Leinart likely to start.
San Diego beat the Jets 27-17 last week. Philip Rivers tossed a pair of touchdown passes and completed 11-of-22 passes for 165 yards and Micheal Spurlock added a 63-yard punt return touchdown for the Chargers (6-9), who have won two of their last three.
San Diego’s defense has the ability to be one of the more dynamic pass-rush fronts in the NFL when things are clicking as they did in Week 16 against the New York Jets. The Chargers sacked New York QB Greg McElroy, making his first start, 11 times. With the Raiders quarterback situation being somewhat unstable because of Palmer’s injury, we can expect to see Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano bring a lot of heat with stunts and blitzes.
The Bolts beat Oakland 22-14 in Week 1. San Diego has won 15 of the past 18 meetings.
