NFL Week 13 odds: Arizona at NY Jets

Two teams going nowhere and two coaches in some jeopardy face off on Sunday when Arizona and the Jets square off. Arizona (4-7) opened the season 4-0 before its current seven-game tailspin put it practically out of playoff contention. New York also is 4-7 and comes off a 49-19 loss to New England on Thanksgiving. The Jets surrendered 35 points in the second quarter with three touchdowns coming in a span of 52 seconds.

Jets QB Mark Sanchez has thrown four touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 1,214 yards with an 80.5 passer rating while the Jets have lost four of five. Sanchez ranks in the bottom five of qualified quarterbacks in completion percentage (51.5) when facing five or more rushers this season. The Cardinals have sent such pressure 39.7 percent of the time, the fifth-highest rate in the NFL.

The Jets’ offense has had no identity much of the season. The Jets have shown the ability to have a physical ground attack at times but haven’t been consistent, averaging 3.8 yards per attempt. Their air assault is even less impressive — it’s ranked 25th at 201 yards per contest. The Cardinals have been solid defensively, especially versus the pass, but were gashed on the ground in Week 12 versus the Rams, giving up 173 yards. Look for offensive coordinator Tony Sparano to get back to the basics with a power running attack and high-percentage passing game this week.

The Cards again start rookie QB Ryan Lindley. His inexperience showed in his first NFL start last weekend, tossing four interceptions — with two returned for scores — while completing 31 of 52 passes for 312 yards in a 31-17 loss to St. Louis. Arizona is trying to avoid its first eight-game losing streak since Sept. 17-Nov. 12, 2006.

The Jets have used five or more rushers 32.4 percent of the time this season, the lowest rate of the Rex Ryan era. The Jets have been ineffective using such pressure this season, allowing nine more touchdowns than interceptions, the worst rate in the NFL.
