NFL Week 11 odds: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins

Third-round rookie Nick Foles will make his first career start on Sunday against the with Michael Vick out with a concussion. Foles was 22 of 32 for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception in relief of Vick in last week’s loss to Dallas. Those numbers weren’t enough to help the Eagles avoid their fifth straight loss, a first in coach Andy Reid’s 14 seasons.

A loss at Washington would have the Eagles in a once unthinkable position — dead last in the NFC East. Coming off the bye, Washington has had two weeks to prepare. Foles, the former Arizona star, shattered all of Drew Brees’ passing records at Austin’s Westlake High School. Don’t be surprised if Reid changes his pass-heavy way and protect the rookie gunslinger by running the ball at least 20 times with LeSean McCoy. Washington’s defense remains one of the worst in the NFL, surrendering an average of 397.9 yards — 301.7 through the air.

The Eagles have been marginal rushing the passer this season but, with three against the Cowboys in Week 10, showed why they led the league in sacks in 2011. Philadelphia has been inconsistent defending the run, while the Redskins are second in the league rushing the football (164.6 yards per game). Look for offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to build his game plan around a power ground assault to set the tempo of the contest.

Redskins rookie QB Robert Griffin III has completed 53.4 percent of his passes for 392 yards with one TD over the last two games, while gaining 61 yards on 17 carries. Griffin had averaged 66.9 rushing yards with six TDs in his first seven games.

The Eagles swept Washington last year and have won five of the past six meetings. Philadelphia and Washington have a rivalry that dates back to 1934, with the Redskins holding the all-time advantage at 79-70-5.
