Closer look at New York Giants’ 2009 schedule

16 June 2009 300 views No Comment

The Giants‘ 2009 schedule might look similar to the 2008 version to backers of the G-Men. That’s because basically 25 percent of it is the same.

New York opens against Washington and finishes against Minnesota for the second year in a row. The Giants will also host the Eagles in Week 14 and the Panthers in Week 16, just as they did last season. In addition, the Giants will also play all three of their NFC East rivals in three straight weeks from Weeks 13-15 for the second straight year.

The Week 2 game at Dallas opens the Cowboys’ new $1.1 billion stadium. It’s the first of three straight road games for New York, which is fairly rare in the NFL. The team’s final regular-season game at Giants Stadium is against Carolina in Week 16. However, the Jets actually get to play the last game at Giants Stadium.

New York’s bye is in Week 10, which suits coach Tom Coughlin just fine.

“We play nine games before the bye — I think that is better for us,” Coughlin said. “The bye gives the players, I think, an opportunity to play a long stretch against high-quality opponents and then have a little break.”
