He’s back: Vick to see action tonight against Jaguars
The most-anticipated game of the NFL preseason takes place tonight in Philadelphia, as Michael Vick returns to the field when the Eagles host the Jaguars – Philly is a 7-point favorite on WagerWeb.com.
Both teams are 0-2 in the preseason, but that hardly matters. A team’s third preseason game is usually the only one that counts because the starters usually play at least a half. Vick, a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, hasn’t played in an NFL game since Dec. 31, 2006, with the Atlanta Falcons — against the Eagles on the same field.
“I can only go off what I’ve seen in practice and it looks like he’s moving around pretty good,” Coach Andy Reid said. “Realistically, it’s been two years. We’ll see how it works out. We’ll give him a couple shots in there and see what he can do.”
Reid said that Vick will play during the first three quarters of the game, meaning he should see time with the starters, as that is how long Reid intends to play them. That would mean that Vick could replace starter Donovan McNabb to run the Eagles’ version of the Wildcat offense, and it perhaps could mean that Vick could line up at running back or wide receiver at times.

This is the first game in which Vick is eligible to play under the terms of his conditional reinstatement by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Vick is eligible to play in his club’s final two preseason games but then won’t play in the regular season until Goodell rules – which he said he would do by Week 6.
The NAACP and a few other civil-rights organizations say they have planned a pro-Vick rally and march around Lincoln Financial Field. Of course, there no doubt will be plenty of detractors outside the stadium as well.
In reality, the Eagles probably want to get Vick time in front of the crowd as much as anything. That should help all the hoopla surrounding him die down some when he plays in a regular-season game.
