McNair filmed suicide PSA before death – it won’t air
In a macabre coincidence, former Titans quarterback Steve McNair taped a youth suicide prevention public service announcement before he was fatally shot in a murder-suicide early last Saturday, Tennessee health officials said.
The Tennessee health officials were “developing a PSA with Steve McNair, but it never reached the point of being aired. And it seems broadcasting it now is not only inappropriate, but doesn’t serve the community, his family or memory — or the issue we hoped the PSA would help address,” said Jill Hudson, a spokeswoman for Tennessee’s Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.
The tape was still in the editing stages.
Details about McNair’s girlfriend also have surfaced. Nashville police say in the days leading up to the murder-suicide, 20-year-old Saheel Kazemi saw another young woman leaving the condominium where she and McNair would soon be found dead. She was worried about money. She was arrested for DUI. She bought a gun and told a co-worker she was thinking about “ending it.”
Police said she had recently begun to suspect McNair was seeing another young woman. Kazemi had even followed that woman home, although she did not confront her.
And she was starting to get into financial trouble. Her roommate had recently moved out, doubling her rent. And she was making payments on a Kia as well as a Cadillac Escalade that she had said was a gift from McNair. The title was in both of their names.
She had been pulled over for DUI in that Escalade on July 2. She had posted an ad on Craigslist to sell her furniture because she planned to move in with McNair, who was still married.
Detectives learned that on July 3, Kazemi remarked to an associate, “my life is a ball of s—, and I should just end it.” Kazemi was scheduled to work until 1 a.m. on Saturday, but requested to leave early. She clocked out at Dave & Buster’s at 10:07 p.m.
She is believed to have gone to her apartment, where her home computer showed activity until about 11 p.m. At some point she went to the condominium. The former QB arrived between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. According to the person who dropped McNair off at the condominium, Kazemi’s Escalade was already parked outside.
And then tragedy.
