McNabb out, but Vick will play for Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles QB sat out another practice on Thursday, pretty much ensuring he will miss a second straight game with a rib injury suffered in the opening win against the Panthers.

The Eagles (1-1) meet the Kansas City Chiefs (0-2) at Lincoln Financial Field – there is no line yet posted on WagerWeb.com for this game because of injuries.

With the Eagles on a bye next week, resting McNabb gives him more time to heal before the Eagles host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 11. McNabb was at Thursday’s practice, but only watched. Third-year QB Kevin Kolb started last week in a loss to the New Orleans Saints and is expected to start again. Kolb set an NFL record for passing yards by a quarterback making his first start (391) last week but also threw three interceptions in a game the Eagles lost going away.

Coach Andy Reid has not said who the backup to Kolb is if McNabb can’t go, but it’s assumed it would be Jeff Garcia. Michael Vick, however, is back from his league suspension and will see some snaps according to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Most reports say Vick should get maybe 10-12 snaps in a Wildcat-type formation; it will be his first regular-season game in 33 months.

“He’ll play. How much we’ll see as the week goes on,” Mornhinweg said. “I think he’s in top physical condition. We’ll see how he handles a few things we have in for him.”

McNabb’s injury isn’t the only concern for Philly. RB Brian Westbrook and WR DeSean Jackson also have not practiced yet this week. Westbrook sprained his right ankle against the Saints last week, but coach Andy Reid said that the swelling has gone down. Jackson has a groin injury but reportedly is telling his teammates that he feels much better. Both Westbrook and Jackson are expected to go on Sunday. If they don’t play, the Chiefs’ upset chances increase in a big way.
