Green Bay Packers (2-1) at Minnesota Vikings (3-0)

You may have heard a thing or two about this on ESPN this week, but some Brett Favre guy is playing some Green Bay team on Monday Night Football.

Certainly this is one of the most-hyped regular season games in years, as Favre faces his former team for the first time after spending 16 years there but not being invited back in 2007. The Packers tried their best to keep Favre from going to the rival Vikings, sending his right to the Jets for the 2007 season, but Favre was able to sign with Minnesota this offseason after the Jets let him go.

Favre can also make some history tonight with a win: He would become the first player ever to have beaten all 32 teams in the league.

“It’ll be a big game for a lot of reasons,” said Favre, who was 17-14 against Minnesota while with Green Bay. “They are a good football team. We’re going to have to play better than we did (last Sunday) to win it – to win any games.”

And while Favre’s right arm produced a miracle last week against the 49ers, the Vikings are still a running team. Adrian Peterson entered the weekend with an NFL-best average of 119.0 yards rushing per game.

The Packers have the league’s 24th-ranked run defense, allowing 128.7 yards per game, and Green Bay has yet to face a back anywhere near the talent of Peterson, who has had at least 103 yards rushing in three of four career games vs. Green Bay. The Vikings are 7-9 all-time when Peterson fails to record 100 yards on the ground and 12-5 when he has a 100-yard game.

Expect a close game tonight, as 12 of the last 13 regular-season meetings have been decided by seven points or less, the lone exception being the Packers’ 34-0 win in 2007. Last season in Green Bay, the Packers used an interception with less than a minute to play to seal the victory, 24-19 in the season opener. Later in Minnesota, a missed field goal in the waning moments of the game gave Minnesota the win, 28-27. That is the Vikings’ lone win against Green Bay since Mike McCarthy took over as Packer coach (5-1).

Favre won’t even be the best QB on the field Monday. Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers is 3-1 with a combined rating of 106.1 in his last four starts and he hasn’t thrown an interception since Week 16 of 2008 — 148 consecutive attempts.
