Giants’ Tuck iffy Sunday vs. Bucs
Sunday’s New York Giants at Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup has all the markings of a trap game for the G-men.
Sure the Giants are 6.5-point betting favorites on WagerWeb.com, but consider that New York just got finished with back-to-back NFC East close rivalry games with the Redskins and Dallas. Now it faces winless Tampa Bay and winless Kansas City in back-to-back weeks. So you don’t think there will be some sort of letdown there? Plus don’t rule out the heat and humidity in Florida having an effect this Sunday as well.
Another reason to possibly take the Bucs and the points is that star Giants DE Justin Tuck very well could be out. He didn’t practice with the team on Wednesday and reportedly suffered a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder when he was tripped in the second quarter of Sunday’s game with Dallas and fell on the joint. Tom Coughlin did not, however, rule him out for Sunday, but most reports say it will be at least a few weeks.
“It’s going to be day-to-day and hopefully by the end of the week there will be some progress,” Coughlin said. “It’s a matter of soreness and strength, soreness and strength. Who knows? Maybe he’ll end up having to wear a harness. That’s not a problem. We have a couple of guys doing that.”
The injury is a recurrence of one he suffered in college. In 2003 he missed time in spring practice when he injured the same left shoulder. He didn’t miss a game that year. Tuck, who has six tackles and 1.5 sacks this year, has not missed an NFL game since the 2006 season, when he had a foot injury. Should Tuck not be able to play against the Buccaneers, his replacement would most likely be Dave Tollefson, who would be a major step down.
Tuck wasn’t the only player not participating in Wednesday’s practice. WR Domenik Hixon, who sprained his knee in the Cowboys game, was sidelined as well.
