Giants (10-1) at Redskins (7-4)
The New York Giants can all but wrap up the NFC East by beating the Washington Redskins on Sunday, but the G-Men will have to do so minus at least one offensive star.
Giants WR Plaxico Burress has been ruled out of Sunday’s game with the Redskins due to a hamstring injury. Burress attempted to play through the injury last week, but came out of the game after one series. If that wasn’t enough, Fox Sports.com is reporting that Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday night and spent the night in the hospital. The injury is not life-threatening. Burress had 10 catches and 133 yards in a Week 1 16-7 win against Washington.
New York is a 3.5-point favorite on WagerWeb.com.
Another Giants star, RB Brandon Jacobs fully participated in Friday’s practice, but remains questionable, while DE Justin Tuck was upgraded to probable after practicing on Friday. In his past two games against Washington, Jacobs has rushed for 246 yards.
For the Redskins, RB Clinton Portis is listed as questionable as he deals with knee and rib injuries. Coach Jim Zorn said Portis, the NFL’s leading rusher, is 50-50 to play Sunday. That would be a huge loss, needless to say, if he can’t go. The Giants, by the way, have yet to allow a 100-yard rusher this year. Portis had for 84 yards on 23 rushing attempts in the Week 1 loss to the Giants.

In their last five games, the Redskins are 3-0 against teams under .500 — with none of the wins by more than eight points — and 0-2 against teams with winning records. The Giants have won six straight by an average of 12.1 points, but their three road wins in that span have come by eight points or less. The Giants have not lost on the road to an NFC opponent since dropping the 2007 season-opener in Dallas.
New York has a league-high 329 points — including 138 in the first four games of November. After a win over San Francisco on Oct. 19, the Giants’ last five victories have all come against playoff contenders.
The Skins could be very shorthanded on defense as linebacker London Fletcher, who has started 130 straight games, is battling foot injuries while defensive end Andre Carter (plantar fasciitis) and defensive tackles Kedric Golston (bone spurs) and Cornelius Griffin (shoulder) also may miss this game. Linebacker Marcus Washington is already sidelined with a sprained ankle.
