Closer look at Cleveland Browns’ 2009 schedule

The Cleveland Browns had high hopes for 2008 but stunk it up with a 4-12 record and a pathetic offense. Yet the Browns are a draw, so they have gotten two nationally-televised prime-time games on the 2009 schedule.

The marquee games of the home schedule come in the second half of the season when the Browns host the Ravens on Monday night Nov. 16 and host the Steelers on Thursday night Dec. 10.

Cleveland also will open the season at home for the 11th straight year, this time against Minnesota. But Cleveland is just 1-9 in the previous 10.

The Browns should have a huge advantage in the winter weather down the stretch, as they finish the season hosting warm-weather foes Oakland and Jacksonville.

But the Browns’ season likely will be make or break by Week 6, considering Cleveland plays four of its next five games on the road following the opener against the Vikings. That’s part of a stretch of eight road games over 13 games, beginning Week 2 at Denver.

Green Bay makes its first regular-season visit to Cleveland Browns Stadium on Oct. 25.

The Browns do play four of their last five games at home for the first time in franchise history, so if they are in contention at that point, Cleveland might return to the playoffs.
