Browns to finish season with Dorsey at QB

Any thoughts you harbored of betting at WagerWeb.com on the Cleveland Browns for the rest of this season, you probably want to forget that.

A lost season is getting worse, with Coach Romeo Crennel likely out barring a miracle finish, star tight end Kellen Winslow hurt again and for sure out Sunday at Tennessee if not the rest of the season, and now both top QBs are done for the year. Less than a week after losing Brady Quinn to a finger injury, the Browns have lost Derek Anderson to a torn MCL suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Colts.

Tuesday’s MRI revealed the tear, but no surgery will be required. Anderson will wear a brace and is expected to recover in four to six weeks. Anderson started Cleveland’s first eight games and went 3-5. He regained his job against the Colts after Quinn was placed on IR with a fractured index finger on his throwing hand that also has tendon damage.

That means former will start Sunday against the 11-1 Titans, who are 13.5-point favorites on WagerWeb.com. It also means that return star and former Kent State quarterback Josh Cribbs is now the backup QB, although Crennel said the Browns might also bring in an experienced veteran who has some background in the system.

Dorsey, who’s 2-8 as a pro, will make his first NFL start in more than three years — Nov. 27, 2005 against the Titans when he was a 49ers. In a 33-22 loss that day, he completed 23 of a career-high 43 attempts for 192 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. Over the past three seasons, Dorsey has thrown four passes – three of them on Sunday’s final drive that ended in an interception after he replaced an injured Anderson.

“He’s very smart and he’s a competitor,” said Crennel. “He probably doesn’t have some the physical skills that some other quarterbacks in the NFL have. That’s probably been the biggest drawback.”

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Dorsey has the experience and capability to run the Cleveland offense.

“He’s going to go in there and execute their offense. That’s what he does,” Fisher said. “He has experience in this league. We’ve seen him. He came in for three plays and knew exactly what to do with the football. It was a tough situation after the sack on second-and-20, third-and-20 and fourth-and-20, but he gave them a chance to make some plays.”

What else is Fisher going to say?
