Bills lose Posluszny to injury again

Count the as one of those teams looking for linebacker help in the wake of an opening game injury.

According to Buffalo head coach Dick Jauron, Bills middle linebacker will be down for “several weeks” with a broken left arm. He was hurt sometime in the second quarter of Buffalo’s loss to New England on Monday night.

“The doctors didn’t give me a definite idea [how long he would be out], but they did say it will need surgery and then I’ll go from there,” said Posluszny. “But I should definitely be back. From what they told me, it’s definitely not an I.R. (injured reserve) thing.”

Gillette Stadium has not been kind to Posluszny, who suffered a broken left forearm three games into his rookie year in 2007. That injury sidelined him for the season. The Penn State product rebounded from that lost 2007 campaign to record 87 tackles in 16 starts last year for Buffalo. He had six tackles last night before going out.

The Bills, who are 4.5-point home favorites this week against the Tampa Bay Bucs, don’t have a lot of depth at that spot with Marcus Buggs or Keith Ellison looking like the guys on the roster who’ll replace Posluszny. Ellison was beaten by Pats tight end Benjamin Watson on the game-winning touchdown Monday night. The Bills could also go after Pat Thomas, a player they released late in training camp who started eight games for the Chiefs in 2008.

Bills defensive end Chris Kelsay also suffered a knee injury during the loss, but there’s no word yet on his status.
