By far what should be the most physical game of this NFL divisional round weekend is the first game of them all, Saturday afternoon’s Baltimore atTennessee matchup.

The Titans, the top seed in the AFC, are 3-point favorites over the sixth-seeded Ravens.

Rookie quarterback Joe Flacco has grown up big time since then for Baltimore. Flacco threw for just 153 yards and had two picks that day in the midst of a “welcome to the NFL” opening five-game stretch where he had just one touchdown pass and seven interceptions. Since then, Flacco has had 13 touchdowns and five interceptions, although he did struggle a bit last week in the win over Miami.

I’m no mathematician, but that adds up to 29.9 total points.

Look for Ravens safety Ed Reed to be the potential difference-maker. He has been playing at a level rarely seen in the league. In his last seven games, he has 10 interceptions and three defensive touchdowns, although he was held relatively in check in that earlier meeting. Reed has picked off two passes in three consecutive games and returned his first pick last week 64 yards for a touchdown last week. He was named the league’s only unanimous All-Pro on Friday. The Ravens are 7-0 this season when scoring a defensive touchdown

Injury-wise, Baltimore is pretty healthy despite having played last week. Only reserve linebacker Antwan Barnes won’t play. The Titans get back defensive stars Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch after both missed the final two games of the regular season. However, Tennessee won’t have All-Pro center Kevin Mawae or defensive end Dave Ball, who filled in well for Vanden Bosch and Haynesworth when they missed time this season.

These teams have faced each other 17 times since 1996 and the Titans hold a one-game lead in the series, 9-8. In the 17 previous games, the Ravens averaged 19 points and the Titans averaged 17 points.
