49ers (3-7) at Cowboys (6-4)

Sunday’s San Francisco-Dallas matchup could be a typical trap game for the Cowboys, who are 10-point favorites on WagerWeb.com.

Why is this dangerous for Dallas? Well, the are clearly playing with more passion under Mike Singletary. They should have beaten Arizona two weeks ago and handled St. Louis easily last week.

In that Rams game, QB became the first quarterback in history to record a perfect passer rating of 158.3 before halftime. In six career games in which he has thrown a pass, Hill has topped the 100.0 passer rating four times. He is drawing heavy praise from offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

“His decisions and what he sees are further along than I would have expected, to be honest with you,” Martz said.

In addition, RB Frank Gore has thrived under Singletary’s run-first philosophy, rushing 18 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns against St. Louis. Gore ranks third in the NFL with 1,159 yards from scrimmage. The Cowboys, meanwhile, rank near the middle against the run, allowing 106 rushing yards per game.

Lastly, the Cowboys know they have a short week following this game, a Thanksgiving game against the Seahawks. So might there be an upset? It’s possible.

But Tony Romo is back slinging for Dallas, so that makes it fairly unlikely. He was just OK last week vs. Washington, but he has won eight of his past 11 starts at home. Although Romo’s pinkie is healing, he’ll likely need to wear a splint under the heavy bandage on his right hand for the second straight week.

“It’s getting better,” Romo said this week. “Every day that goes by it gets a little bit better. I threw lightly out there without the splint on, so I feel confident.”

Meanwhile, expect a big game from a peeved Terrell Owens. He spoke out this week because he has been limited to 21 catches for 174 yards and one TD in his last five games. But this is his first game against his former club since he became a Cowboy, and that’s just the sort of thing to motivate him.

The Cowboys have won two of the past three meetings including the last game – in 2005.
