The Michigan Wolverines can get a little something from a lost season by upsetting Ohio State on Saturday and keeping the Buckeyes potentially from winning the Big Ten and heading to the Rose Bowl.

As of the writing, UM is a 21-point underdog on WagerWeb.com, the largest spread in the history of this rivalry.

Michigan, however, likely won’t have quarterback Steven Threet, who is doubtful due to a slight shoulder separation.

“We’ll see in the next 48 hours,” Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Monday.

Nick , who started the last two games, “will be ready to go,” Rodriguez said.

, however, was just 8-of-29 passing for 61 yards in a loss to Northwestern last Saturday. He was pulled for Threet, who was really no better, completing 4 of 7 passes for 22 yards in the second half. He also threw a crucial fourth-quarter interception. Threet’s appearance lasted two full series and part of a third, until he was upended on a running play, and landed awkwardly to the turf.

For the season, has started three games, compared to eight for Threet. But Michigan ranks last in the Big Ten in passing efficiency.

“I’m not overwhelmed by the fact that I came here as a walk-on and now I’m starting against Ohio State,” said Monday. “That doesn’t change anything.”

Freshman tailback Sam McGuffie’s availability is in question. He missed Saturday’s game with a knee injury and a death in the family might require him to return to Texas.

But junior tailback Brandon Minor, who didn’t play last week because of a number of injuries, said he would play this Saturday. Minor said a shoulder injury, more than anything else, was still bothering him.

Ohio State is a win away from earning at least a share of a fourth consecutive Big Ten title, and it would go to the Rose Bowl if Penn State loses to Michigan State. UM hasn’t won in Columbus since 2000.
