There are three games for your college football betting pleasure on Thursday night at WagerWeb.com, and one of them features one of the biggest surprises of the season: The MAC East-leading .

Temple hosts MAC rival Miami of Ohio on Thursday and is a 17-point betting favorite on WagerWeb.com.

Seriously, I am guessing all you know about Temple is that it’s in Philly, usually has a good basketball program and that Bill Cosby went there. The football team hasn’t posted a winning record since 1990, but is now bowl-eligible at 6-2 and looking like a very real candidate to play in the MAC title game – Temple hasn’t won a conference title of any kind since 1967 nor won a bowl game since 1979.

The Owls have won six games in a row for the first time since 1994 behind freshman star RB Bernard Pierce, who has 1,063 yards rushing (third in the nation) and 11 touchdowns. Pierce carried the ball 29 times for 267 yards on Saturday in an upset of Navy and became the first Temple player since Paul Palmer in 1986 to rush for more than 200 yards in consecutive games. He is the first Temple back to gain 1,000 yards rushing since 2002 and has rushed for 100 yards in five of his last six games.

The RedHawks (1-8, 1-4 in the MAC) ended a two-season, 13-game losing streak last Saturday by defeating Toledo 31-24. Quarterback Zac Dysert, a redshirt freshman, completed 31-of-51 passes for 344 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed 13 times for 60 yards and two touchdowns. It was his third 300-yard passing performance since being inserted into the starting lineup in the fourth game.

Thursday’s game will mark the fourth meeting between the Owls and the RedHawks. Last year, Temple was a 28-10 winner on the road. The Owls lead 2-1 overall. Temple has won five consecutive MAC games at home at Lincoln Financial Field, and since joining the MAC in 2007, the Owls own the league’s best home record for MAC games at 8-2.
