Tennessee vs. Georgia: An early look
Georgia star running back Knowshon Moreno says his injured right elbow will not keep him out of this Saturday’s game against a desperate 2-3 Tennessee team, one that has yet to beat a BCS conference club.
“No worries,” the Georgia tailback said.
Moreno suffered a chipped elbow bone in the loss to Alabama two Saturdays ago. He said he would have played this past week if Georgia didn’t have a bye.
“My elbow is good,” he said. “Oh yeah, I’ll be there [against Tennessee]. I’ll be ready to go.”
Georgia only practiced twice during the bye week, but used the time to heal a team depleted by injury and refocus a team depleted by the Crimson Tide.

“It was very healthy for us to get back to work,” coach Mark Richt said. “It was good for us to have a few days to reflect and get over the grief a little bit and to refocus. You hate to say you’ve got to refocus but we do. I think we see where we are. We’re still No. 10 or No. 11 in the nation. We’re still very much in control of our destiny as far as the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference.”
Richt said Moreno was officially probable for this week’s game and added that fullback Brannan Southerland, who saw his first action of the year on special teams against Alabama, was also likely to start. Wide receiver Kris Durham and defensive end Rod Battle are both out, while linebacker Dannell Ellerbe is questionable.
The Vols had Georgia’s number last year, winning 35-14 in Knoxville. But the Dawgs went on to win seven consecutive games and finish No. 2 in the nation last season after losing to UT.
“If we can play a more disciplined brand of football and continue to improve fundamentally, I think we can get right back on track,” Richt said. “That’s kind of where we’re sitting right now.”
Tennessee is the only team left on Georgia’s schedule with a losing record currently. Richt has a 4-3 record against Tennessee, but the Vols are the only team to hand him consecutive double-digit defeats. Since the start of the 2002 season, Richt is 9-1 in regular-season games when coming off an open date.
