No word yet on Sooners’ Bradford

Saturday’s game between No. 8 Oklahoma and No. 17 Miami is huge in the sense that the loser certainly is out of the national title chase and probably won’t get a BCS bowl invite without winning its conference championship game.

Thus you can see why the Sooners are  hoping to have back Heisman Trophy winner for the game.

However, OU coach Bob Stoops said he still doesn’t know if Bradford can play but that it won’t be a game-time decision.

“I would think we would know here later in the week what Sam’s able to handle and where we feel we’re at with it,” Stoops said Monday. “I would think it would be earlier than (a game-time decision).”

Stoops said “everything has been positive” in Bradford’s recovery since he was hurt just before halftime in Oklahoma’s season-opening 14-13 loss to BYU. With freshman backup Landry Jones at quarterback, Oklahoma has defeated two straight opponents, Idado State and Tulsa, by the score of 109-0 with Bradford on the sideline.

Bradford visited Dr. James Andrews in Alabama over the weekend to get an additional opinion on how his recovery is going.

“I’m not much on — maybe some people would disagree — on being coy or evasive on stuff. I pretty much usually call it as it is and when we don’t know, I say we don’t know just yet,” Stoops said.

Bradford went through quarterback drills during practice last week, attempting some short passes.

UM coach Randy Shannon said the team will prepare for the Sooners’ offense, not just Bradford. When the teams met in Norman in 2007, Bradford, as a redshirt freshman, threw five touchdowns in OU’s 51-13 victory.

After starting the season 2-0, Miami was crushed 31-7 on Saturday at Virginia Tech. The Sooners (2-1) had a bye over the weekend.
