Saturday NCAA: Texas Longhorns at Oklahoma State Cowboys

30 October 2009 106 views No Comment

This season might be the ’ best chance to unseat South powers Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game, but it all comes down to Saturday’s game in front of what is expected to be the biggest crowd in OSU history.

Texas is a 9.5-point favorite on WagerWeb.com.

It’s almost as if Mack Brown has cast a spell over OSU. Texas has won 10 games in a row in this series and leads all-time 21-2 and 6-1 in Stillwater. However, OSU has led by at least nine points in the past three games in Stillwater – only to blow it.

Colt McCoy gets all the press, but the UT defense has been a beast this year. Texas has held three of its last four opponents to less than 175 yards of total offense. In the last five games, UT has allowed 103 yards rushing on 128 attempts (0.8 yards per carry).

Oklahoma State remains without suspended star WR Dez Bryant, but the Cowboys might get another star back Saturday. RB Kendall Hunter, who has been out with an ankle injury, is expected to play. Hunter, a first-team All-American last year, will likely share carries with Keith Toston, who has been very solid in Hunter’s place. In two games this season, Hunter has 32 carries for 114 yards and one touchdown. He gained 1,555 yards and ran for 14 TDs last season.

OSU enters having put up 445 yards of total offense against Baylor, marking the fourth time this season it posted over 400 yards in a game. QB Zac Robinson is the Big 12’s top-rated quarterback with a passing efficiency of 158.27, and OSU’s offense is sixth nationally in scoring (37.0 ppg). The Cowboys haven’t turned the ball over in their past two games, and they can’t turn the ball over Saturday and hope to win.

Oklahoma State, which beat a ranked Georgia team in the season opener, has not knocked off two ranked teams in the same season since 1984.
