Louisiana Tech vs. Boise State game preview
If you just simply look at the numbers, Louisiana Tech has no chance against Boise State on Wednesday night, and oddsmakers at WagerWeb.com agree, listing the Bulldogs as 24-point underdogs.
Here are some of those numbers:
*-Boise State has won five league titles in seven seasons while going 46-2 in conference games since 2002.
*-The Broncos are 28-0 at home all-time in WAC play and have won their last 45 regular-season home games overall.
*-Boise State is 52-4 in WAC play since joining the league.
*-Louisiana Tech is 2-20 against ranked opponents since 2000.
*-The last time the Bulldogs won at Bronco Stadium was in 1997, four years before Louisiana Tech made the jump to the WAC.
*-The Bulldogs’ last three visits to Boise have resulted in losses by at least 26 points, including a pair of 55-14 drubbings in 2004 and 2006.
Other than that …
“It’s going to be a great challenge for our team,” said Louisiana Tech coach Derek Dooley.
Plus Boise is coming off a win over then-No. 17 Oregon 37-32, led by quarterback Kellen Moore. The victory vaulted Boise State into the national rankings for the first time this season and marked the first Bronco road win against a BCS conference opponent.
Moore, only a freshman, has been great this year, completing 72 percent of his passes and throwing for 840 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception.
More bad news for La. Tech: It allows an average of 348 yards passing, among the worst in the nation.
And another note: Boise State RB Ian Johnson has scored 23 of his 50 career touchdowns in eight games when the Broncos were on ESPN or ESPN2. Those games also account for six of his 15 100-yard games and both of his 200-yard games. Yes, tonight’s game is on ESPN.
Still, Boise State needs to find some consistency after being shut out in four of the past six quarters. In the other two quarters, they scored 37 points against Oregon. The Broncos also have been shut out in their last two fourth quarters, allowing opponents to turn blowouts into competitive games.
