Friday NCAA: Boise State Broncos at Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

5 November 2009 75 views No Comment

The No. 5 Boise State Bulldogs simply don’t lose on Friday nights, going 12-1 in their history playing on the night. And they don’t lose in the WAC much either, having taken 11 straight conference decisions and has won 10 consecutive road games as well.

So that’s what Louisiana Tech is faced with Friday night, and the Bulldogs are 21-point betting underdogs on WagerWeb.com.

BSU has taken seven straight meetings from the Bulldogs, including a 38-3 rout at home last season to kick off its conference slate at the start of October. However, Louisiana Tech is no slouch at home, winning 10 of its past 11 there. In fact, it is 16-7 at home since 2005, the third-best winning percentage in the WAC. The Bulldogs have won their three home games this year by an average of more than 31 points. BSU is 3-1 in Ruston all-time, but they’ve trailed at halftime three times and been tied once.

But here’s the problem: Tech’s two best offensive players are very much in question for Friday’s game. Both running back , who has rushed for a team-best 640 yards and seven touchdowns, and receiver Phillip Livas, also a great kick returner, left last week’s 35-34 loss to Idaho with injuries and both are likely to be game-time calls. Porter and Livas were All-WAC first-teamers last year.

The Bulldogs are built around a rushing attack that averages 178.2 yards per game and a variety of plays that get the ball to Livas, who already has scored on a kickoff return and punt return this season.

Broncos quarterback Kellen Moore leads the nation in pass efficiency and is second in touchdowns with 24. He also leads the nation in touchdown-to-interception ratio at 12:1. BSU has scored 99 points in the past two games. On defense, BSU allows 274.3 yards and 13.6 points per game. Only one opponent has generated more than 307 yards. That unit has eight takeaways the past two games as well.
