South Carolina enters off a 75-54 win over Arkansas to end a two-game skid. — Brian Richardson tied his career high with 20 points and South Carolina matched its total Southeastern Conference wins from a year ago. The Gamecocks (12-7, 2-4 SEC) trailed by 12 less than five minutes into the game, but turned things around with a 40-11 run the rest of the period. Richardson was a big reason, scoring 11 points off three 3-pointers to push South Carolina to its first SEC victory of 20-points or more in seven seasons. Bruce Ellington added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting for South Carolina.
It was South Carolina’s first 20-point SEC victory since beating Mississippi State 83-61 on Feb. 11, 2006. The Gamecocks were 2-14 in the SEC last year, leading to the dismissal of coach Darrin Horn and the hiring of Frank Martin from Kansas State.
Florida crushed Mississippi State 82-47 on Saturday. Kenny Boynton and Erik Murphy both scored 18 points, and the 8th-ranked Gators poured in a season-high 14 3-pointers. Scottie Wilbekin and Young both added 13 points. The Gators (16-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) have now won eight straight and were never challenged in this one, bolting out to a 20-6 lead in less than eight minutes and a 41-19 advantage by halftime.
UF has played suffocating defense this season, holding 10 of its opponents under 50 points and 14 under 60 points. Florida ranks third in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 51.2 points per game.
