Wednesday college basketball odds: No. 6 Florida at Florida State

The have easily looked like one of the most impressive teams in the country so far this season, but UF will be on upset alert as FSU will be very motivated to end a two-game home losing streak on Wednesday night. Check our current lines.

After losing by nine at home to Minnesota, FSU was beaten 61-56 by Mercer on Sunday. Trailing since the 5:32 mark of the second half, the Seminoles (4-3) had a chance to tie the game at 57 apiece with 33 seconds left but Terrance Shannon made just one of two attempts and the Bears answered by hitting all four of their freebies in the final 23 seconds to pull off the upset. It marked Florida State’s first loss to Mercer since 1954. While FSU did only shoot 61 percent from the line, the Seminoles also shot just 35 percent overall and 35 percent from 3-point range.

Okaro White was the lone player to score in double figures as he registered 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting and grabbed a team-best six rebounds. But star shooting guard Michael Snaer was held to just six shots and finished with seven points while Ian Miller had five points and Shannon added seven. White, Snaer and Shannon each battled with foul trouble through much of the afternoon as well.

Fueled by a 82-49 victory against Marquette in the SEC/Big East Challenge, the University of Florida men’s basketball team was ranked No. 5 in the USA Today’s Coaches’ Poll and No. 6 in the AP Poll. This marks the highest the Gators have been ranked in both the AP and USA Today Coaches’ Poll since the end of 2006-07 season.

Florida (6-0) routed Marquette 62-49 in a rematch of the teams’ Sweet 16 matchup in last year’s NCAA Tournament. Benched because of his attitude in practice, Gators center Pat Young responded as well as Florida coach Billy Donovan could have imagined. Young had 10 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in the win. The Gators stayed unbeaten without much help from Kenny Boynton. The team’s leading scorer missed his first six shots and was scoreless until hitting a jumper with 16:34 remaining. Boynton finished with six points on 2-of-11 shooting. Michael Frazier (17 points), Will Yeguete (11), Casey Prather (11), Mike Rosario (11), and Erik Murphy (10) all scored in double digits.

UF has been winning with a suffocating defense, holding four of its six opponents under 50 points. The Gators have limited foes to 26 points or fewer in 10 of 12 halves played this season. Dating to last season’s NCAA Tournament, six of the Gators’ last 10 opponents have scored 50 or fewer.

Florida and Florida State meet for the 64th time in series history, with the Gators holding a 41-22 edge and an active three-game winning streak against the Seminoles. UF is 10-6 vs. FSU under Donovan, including 4-3 in Tallahassee. All-time, the Gators are 17-10 at Florida State.
