Wednesday college basketball odds: No. 10 Gonzaga at Washington State

It appears that yet again the University of Gonzaga might be the best college basketball team on the West Coast as the Zags put their unbeaten mark on the line with a tough test at Washington State on Wednesday. Check our current lines

The Cougars (5-3) have bounced back from a three-game losing streak with three straight wins. Last time out they beat Portland 72-60. Brock Motum scored 29 points and Royce Woolridge 20 to lead the way. The Cougars outscored the Pilots 32-12 in the paint and had a 45-27 rebounding advantage. The Pilots trailed 39-33 early in the second half, but Washington State started feeding the posts. Portland had no answer for the inside play of Motum, who scored 17 of his 29 points late in the second half.

Gonzaga (8-0) beat Pacific 85-67 on Saturday to tie the team record for most wins to open a season. Sam Dower scored 18 points, and Elias Harris added 17 points for Gonzaga, which tied the 1994-95 squad for most wins to start the season. Kelly Olynyk added 15 points and Kevin Pangos 12 for Gonzaga.

Gonzaga coach Mark Few won his 350th game and has a 350-90 career record, all with the Bulldogs. He became one of the seventh youngest coaches with 350 wins in NCAA Division I history. Gonzaga is 110-7 in the McCarthey Athletic Center since it opened in the 2004-05 season.

The Zags are is back in the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Top 10 for the first time in four years. The Zags were last in the Top 10 Dec. 22, 2008, when the Zags were ranked seventh in both polls with an 8-2 record. After being ranked 10th in both preseason polls that year, the Zags spent the first six weeks of the season in the Top 10, were ranked every week throughout the season and finished 10th in the final balloting of both polls.

These two schools opened their 2011-12 season against one another. Gonzaga won 89-81 at home. Pangos tied Dickau’s school record with nine 3-pointers and finished with 33 points. Motum had 17 points for Washington State, which trailed by 16 points in the second half and got as close as three points.
