The were the preseason favorites in the Pac-12 Conference, but unless UCLA goes on a major run starting right now it will miss the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have a big game Thursday night vs. Stanford – Place your college basketball bets at WagerWeb.com.

UCLA might be turning things around, having won three of four. Saturday, Joshua Smith scored 19 points to lead UCLA past Washington State 63-60. David Wear and Lazeric Jones added 15 points each for the Bruins (13-10, 6-5 Pac-12). That was UCLA’s first win this season against a Division I team away from Southern California. It was the 19th consecutive victory for UCLA at Washington State and the first loss at Beasley Coliseum this season for the Cougars.

Stanford is going the other way, having lost four of five. On Saturday, the Cardinals fell 56-43 at home to Arizona. Josh Owens, Aaron Bright and Chasson Randle scored 10 points apiece for the Cardinal (16-7, 6-5), who have lost four of their last five since being in a tie for first place in the conference. Stanford struggled with its worst field-goal percentage of the season, 25.4 percent.

UCLA is currently in a tie for sixth place in the conference with Stanford and three games out of first with seven games to go. Chances of winning the Pac-12 title are slim with six teams standing between UCLA and the top spot so the Bruins will be looking to climb into the top four over the last month of the regular season in order to receive a coveted bye in the first round of the Pac-12 Conference tournament.

The Bruins and Cardinal met in Palo Alto on Dec. 29, a 60-59 Stanford win. Josh Huestis blocked a potential go-ahead jumper by Jones with 3 seconds remaining in the conference opener for both teams. Jones led UCLA with 26 points. Bright had 16 points and Randle scored 10 for the Cardinal, who blew an 11-point first-half lead. The Bruins had won three in a row and nine of the last 10 against Stanford. UCLA owns a 135-91 edge in the series, which dates back to the 1924-25 campaign.
