Saturday college basketball odds: No. 3 Michigan at Wisconsin

The University of Michigan lost the No. 1 ranking in the new polls Monday, but thanks to losses already this week by Indiana and Florida, the Wolverines could ascend back to the top with a win Saturday at Wisconsin, never an easy place to play.

U-M (21-2, 8-2) bounced back from last weekend’s loss to Indiana with a 76-74 overtime win over No. 10 Ohio State on Tuesday. Tim Hardaway finished with 23 points, including five straight 3-pointers in the second half. Trey Burke missed a 3-pointer at the end of regulation that would have won it for Michigan — the Wolverines’ only miss in nine second-half attempts from beyond the arc. Michigan and Ohio State were meeting for the first time with both teams ranked in the top 10. The Buckeyes handed the Wolverines their first loss of the season last month.

Wisconsin (16-7, 7-3) beat Iowa 74-70 in double overtime on Wednesday. Ben Brust scored 18 points, including three key free throws in double overtime. Jared Berggren added 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Badgers, who snapped a three-game losing streak to the Hawkeyes. Wisconsin overcame a nine-point deficit trailing 51-42 with 6:18 remaining in regulation. The Badgers nine-point comeback ranks as the second largest comeback of the season — UW overcame a 13-point deficit against Arkansas on Nov. 24, 2012. The double overtime game was the Badgers’ first double OT game since the 2005-06 season when they defeated Eastern Kentucky 95-89. Iowa’s 70 points snapped a Wisconsin 20-game streak of holding opponents to 60 points or less at the Kohl Center.

Wisconsin improved to 178-17 (.913) at the Kohl Center under Bo Ryan, including a mark of 88-10 (.898) in Big Ten Conference home games. Ryan improved to 139-57 (.709) in Big Ten games, tying Ohio State’s Thad Matta (105-43, .709) for the highest winning percentage in conference history.

Saturday’s game will mark the season’s only meeting between the Badgers and Wolverines. Michigan hasn’t won in Madison since 1999.
