Top prospect Wall set to trim list of schools

3 May 2009 One Comment

Do you want any more proof that Raleigh, N.C., prep star John Wall, considered by many the nation’s No. 1 overall high school basketball recruit, is enjoying the spotlight and milking this recruiting process as long as possible?

Early last week, Wall said he expected to trim his list of eight possible destinations to three or four schools by Friday. Instead, Wall decided to visit North Carolina Central, a historically black school that is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Lavelle Moton, a former standout at Central, was named as the Eagles head coach this spring and has known Wall and worked with him for years.

“I want to find out what a historically black school has to offer,” Wall told the Charlotte media. “This is a visit to find out some things.”

Or to get more press.

N.C. State, Baylor, Kentucky, Miami, Duke, Kansas, Memphis and Florida are on Wall’s list, and he said there are no leaders and that any “trimming”wouldn’t likely come before Monday.

“I have not told anyone a group of leaders,” he said. “In my mind, the schools are even.”

With top recruit Xavier Henry having chosen Kansas and with the Jayhawks seemingly set with a starting five, it’s hard to see Wall going to Lawrence.

Wall visited Miami last weekend, and that was thought to be his final one before going to North Carolina Central.

“It was real good,”he said of the Miami trip. “I hung out with the fellas. I went to watch the baseball game. Jack McClinton threw out the first pitch and me and the players watched them.”

Most think Kentucky is the unofficial leader in the clubhouse, although John Calipari also is recruiting No. 3 overall point guard Eric Bledsoe. Memphis is also heavily after Bledsoe.

Bledsoe confirmed Memphis and Kentucky are the only schools is he considering and said that Wall’s decision would not determine his own..

“That’s who I’m deciding between,” he said. “I’m going to try to make (a decision) next week.”

I have never felt like wall will go to ky., although it would be the best fit . n. c. has not offered because of his offiliation with his aau coach. he would probably have to split time with present p.guard at duke. he would be a solid starter at ky.,because they don,t have an experienced point guard.
