Friday college basketball odds: No. 15 Georgetown at Cincinnati

It’s a rare BCS conference matchup and ranked team playing on a Friday night in college basketball as Georgetown looks for its seventh straight win and to take over first place in the Big East temporarily when the Hoyas visit Cincinnati. Cincinnati ended a two-game skid on Tuesday with a 68-50 win over Villanova. Sean Kilpatrick and JaQuon Parker scored to lead UC. Cincinnati (19-6, 7-5 Big East) has relied on Kilpatrick for most of its offense lately with point guard Cashmere Wright on the mend. Kilpatrick has averaged nearly 21 points over the last seven games, leading the Bearcats in scoring each time. Wright had 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting, his second-best point total in his last seven games. The Wildcats had a tough time getting open against Cincinnati’s trapping defense and turned it over 19 times.

Kilpatrick has led UC in scoring in each of the last seven contests while being the game’s high scorer six times. He is averaging 20.7 points during the stretch while shooting 41.1 percent from the field (46 of 112). He also has made a team-high 26 three-pointers and swiped a team-best nine steals while averaging 5.1 rebounds.

Georgetown beat No. 25 Marquette 63-55 on Monday. Otto Porter scored 21 points, Markel Starks finished with 16 points, and Georgetown scored 24 points off 19 turnovers. The Hoyas (18-4, 8-3 Big East) won their sixth straight and avenged a 49-48 loss at Marquette on Jan. 5. Georgetown went nearly 7 minutes without a field goal to start the second half. It went 9 for 24 from the field after the break but compensated by making 11 of 17 free throws.

The Hoyas rank second in the Big East and eighth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 55.7 points to their opponents. GU also ranks second in the league and 11th in the nation in field goal percentage defense at 37.6 percent. The Hoyas rank among the league leaders in field goal shooting (fourth at 46.0 percent), three-point shooting (fifth at 34.5 percent), assists (fifth at 14.91) and steals (fifth at 7.55). Porter ranks 11th in the Big East in scoring (15.3 ppg) and third in rebounding (7.9 rpg).

This is the 12th meeting; Cincinnati owns a 6-5 lead overall in series history. UC leads 2-1 in Cincinnati and 1-0 at neutral sites. Georgetown leads 4-3 in Washington, D.C.
