Wizards’ Arenas to miss first month
The Washington Wizards gave Gilbert Arenas more than $110-plus million this offseason despite his recent injury history. A lot of people questioned that move.
More so will today after it was learned that Arenas confirmed that he underwent a surgical procedure Wednesday that “cleaned out some debris” in his left knee.
Arenas, who has undergone two surgeries to repair the left knee in the last two seasons, has been limited during the rehab process all summer and said he has planned all along on not participating in training camp or the preseason. He played in only 13 regular-season games last season and missed the 2007 playoffs after tearing the left meniscus in his knee late in the regular season.
Arenas, who signed a six-year, $111 million contract this summer, said he plans on returning to game action sometime in early December, which would mean that he’d miss at least the season’s first month.
“I just had some floating debris in there that was slowing me down,” said Arenas. “It was irritating the knee so we decided to go in there and clean it out. This should actually allow me to come back faster.”
The Wizards have two point guards on the current roster – Antonio Daniels and Dee Brown – and barely any space underneath the luxury tax threshold. So expect the Wizards to basically stand pat heading into the season and wait for Arenas to get healthy.

The Wizards open the regular season Oct. 29 at home against New Jersey and play a total of 14 games in October and November.
The good news is that Washington actually played better without Arenas last season than with him. But no one doubts that the team is better off when Arenas is 100 percent.
NBA futures are out on WagerWeb.com, and the Wizards are currently +1800 to win the East. Arenas was +1000 to win the 2008-09 MVP, but you can probably forget about that now
