It appears that the will get star swingman back from a long injury absence on Saturday in what should be an easy win at New Jersey – Place your NBA basketball bets at WagerWeb.com.

Coach Gregg Popovich called Ginobili “likely” for the game against the Nets. In fact, Popovich said Ginobili — who missed his 22nd game Wednesday in Philadelphia since fracturing his shooting hand Jan. 2 in Minnesota — tried to bargain his way onto the floor against the 76ers.

The last hurdle Ginobili must clear before Popovich will sign off on a return is a full-scale practice. That will come Friday in New York City. If Ginobili passes that test, Popovich is likely to bring him off the bench against the Nets.

With Ginobili having already been medically cleared to play, Popovich will make the final determination based on the guard’s general conditioning level.

“It’s not about the hand,” Ginobili said. “It’s about all the other stuff.”

Under the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement, the Spurs have the option of sending Ginobili to the Development League for a rehabilitation assignment. Popovich said he considered the move, but decided against it.

A Wednesday night win in Philadelphia was the sixth straight for the Spurs, who have moved into second place in the conference with their sights set on the West-leading Oklahoma City Thunder. San Antonio is 2-0 on his season-high nine-game Rodeo road trip.

The team’s current trip could have been the type of roadblock to derail the season considering how the Spurs started away from the AT&T Center. But, after getting out of the gates at 0-5 as the visitor, San Antonio has now won five of seven away from home.

Before the trip ends the Spurs will have visited nine different cities and traveled nearly 8,000 miles. When they arrive back in the Alamo City on Feb. 29, we should all know if the club is still a serious contender in what is shaping up as a watered-down West.
