There are some excellent NBA matchups on Friday night, but perhaps none has more intrigue than does the Detroit at Denver game in the Mile High City.

The Nuggets are 4-point favorites on WagerWeb.com in the first meeting between the teams since the big Allen Iverson-Chauncey Billups trade.

Denver took off when Billups arrived, having gone 24-9 since the deal and climbing to No. 2 in the deep Western Conference. Billups, who spent six seasons with the Pistons, is averaging 18.3 points and 6.9 assists per game with Denver.

Detroit’s end hasn’t been as good, as it has gone 17-12 with Iverson for the fifth-best record in the Eastern Conference. A.I. is averaging 18.1 points and 5.7 assists with Detroit.

“Denver played so well right away because they were missing that point guard,” Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince said. “We knew Billups would go in and give them what they needed right away. With us, we had a longer transition because of how we play.”



The Pistons (+155 on the WagerWeb.com money line) are beaten up, which could be the difference tonight. Power forward Rasheed Wallace has missed four straight games with a right foot problem, but he might return tonight. However, shooting guard Richard Hamilton, who has missed six games in a row with a groin tear, is very questionable. Both will be game-time decisions, but Hamilton has said he wants to face his Billups, his good friend. Fellow Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey, who has been Detroit’s best player of late, has a back problem but is expected to play.

But the Nuggets, who have been swept by the Pistons the last two seasons, will be without All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony, who broke his hand this week and is out a month.

Linas Kleiza stepped up in Anthony’s absence and scored 21 points in Denver’s 108-97 victory over Miami on Wednesday. The Pistons come in off a last-second loss in Portland on the same night, which ended Detroit’s seven-game winning streak.
