Here’s how to lure LeBron: Give him his own channel

10 September 2009 155 views No Comment

The NBA’s salary cap is shrinking, and the New York Knicks probably can’t afford two maximum-salary free agents next summer. Obviously the target all along was , but the Knicks knew they probably needed another star to convince James that the Knicks were ready to win.

Well, apparently the team is getting more creative with ways to lure LeBron. How? With his own cable channel. There’s no concrete report about this, but the New York Daily News is reporting a “rumor” that it’s something Cablevision, which owns the Knicks, is investigating as a way to skirt the NBA’s salary-cap rules.

LeBron would receive income from the advertisers on his cable channel. According to NBA rules, the team would not be allowed to set up these endorsements/advertisers for LeBron, he would have to handle that himself.

When LeBron becomes a free agent, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be in the best position to resign him. This is because of the Larry Bird clause, which allows a team to go over the salary cap in order to sign their own free agent. Look for him to stay with the Cavs and on Fox Sports Ohio!
