Tuesday NBA: Pistons (36-37) at Cavaliers (60-13)

The Detroit Pistons can’t possibly win in Cleveland tonight, right? After all, the Cavs are an incredible 35-1 at home (only one team, the 1985-86 Boston Celtics lost just once at home all season), have won a franchise-best 12 straight games and are 15-1 in March.

Not to mention the Cavs are 9.5-point favorites on WagerWeb.com, with an over/under of 177.5.

However, Detroit could have its three stars all on the court at the same time for the first time in weeks, and that boost could make this game closer than anticipated.

Richard Hamilton returned from injury early last week and Allen Iverson got back Sunday night after missing 16 games with a sore back. He had eight points, two assists and two rebounds in 21 minutes as Detroit beat Philly.

, who has sat out 11 games because of a left calf injury, is expected back tonight, finally giving the Pistons their whole roster for the first time since Feb. 25. And with those three guys having missed so much time this year, the Detroit bench is suddenly much better (remember that Iverson is now a sixth man).

For example, guard Will Bynum has scored in double figures in seven of the past nine games and is averaging 15.3 points in that stretch. And Kwame Brown had his second double-double as a Piston in Sunday’s victory. Brown finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds in 22 minutes.

He had 11 rebounds, a steal and the saving block against the Wizards on Saturday. He has averaged 6.0 points and 8.2 rebounds the last seven games.

“Kwame has been huge,” coach Michael Curry said. “He’s been playing really good and once Sheed gets back, that just gives us another weapon. His defense has been great.”

Of course the Cavs are led by MVP candidate LeBron James, who is averaging 28.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists. The Cavs already have hung the Central Division championship banner in the rafters, and the Pistons team that visits tonight currently is the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, a game ahead of the Bulls.

“It is a little weird,” Cavs coach Mike Brown said. “Obviously, they have not been in that position in a long time. They know they’re better than that. They know they can have more of an impact than where they’re sitting at now.”

The Cavaliers are coming off a 102-74 win over Dallas on Sunday in which they rallied from 15 points down to dominate the second half as they outscored Dallas 55-25, including 30-11 in the third quarter. James had 24 points and 12 assists while Joe Smith added 12 points and 13 rebounds off the bench. Cleveland has won its last two by an average of 25.0 points.

Detroit won the first meeting between these two this season, but the Cavs have won the past two by 12 and 10 points, respectively. Cleveland hasn’t won the season series in 11 years.
