Thursday NBA: Denver Nuggets (1-0) at Portland Trail Blazers (1-0)
Both Denver and Portland had impressive opening night wins over playoff foes from last season: the Nuggets beat Utah 114-105, while the Blazers beat Houston 96-87.
Host Portland is a 7-point favorite for tonight’s game on WagerWeb.com.
The Blazers, who have as much size as anyone outside of the Lakers, had a 51-33 rebounding advantage in the win over Houston. No Rockets player had more than five rebounds.
Don’t think one game doesn’t count. Last season, Denver won the Northwest Division by a tiebreaker (better record against division opponents) despite finishing with the same record (54-28) as the Trail Blazers. The two teams split their four-game series for the second consecutive season, each winning its two home games. Carmelo Anthony led the Nuggets last season, averaging 25 points in two games against the Blazers. Nene averaged 15.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists against the Trail Blazers. He shot 65 percent from the field.
Carmelo had a game-high 30 points in the opener against Utah after leading the NBA in scoring during the preseason at 23.6 ppg. Chauncey Billups finished with 25 while Kenyon Martin added 16 points and 11 rebounds against the Jazz.
Travis Outlaw led all scorers with 23 points off the bench for Portland in its opener. He is the first Blazer to score that many points off the bench in a season opener since 1986-87. The Blazers won their seventh straight regular-season game dating back to last season; that is the longest active streak in the NBA.
LaMarcus Aldridge led the Blazers with a 17.3 points per game average against Denver last year, but star Brandon Roy was held to 13.8 on 42 percent shooting.
Portland has taken four of its last five games with Denver at the Rose Garden, and the Blazers were 34-7 at home last year.

This will be a good one but I think Nuggets are to deep with too much experience.
