Boston’s season comes down to one player, and that’s Kevin Garnett. When he went out injured at about the three-quarters pole of the regular season. The Celtics eventually were dumped out of the Eastern Conference semifinals by the Orlando Magic and were lucky just to make it that far after an epic first-round series against the Bulls.

By all accounts, Garnett’s knee his healthy. And in adding Rasheed Wallace as a free agent, Boston now has a little depth up front – a lack thereof was exposed in the playoffs last season. Wallace’s defense and outside shooting fit perfectly into Doc Rivers’ system. And it’s thought playing on such a veteran team will keep Wallace’s mind in the right place as well.

When healthy, Boston is as good as anyone, but the Boston title window could slam shut after this year with KG, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Wallace getting up there in years. Rajon Rondo, who was rumored to be on the trade blocks this offseason, Kendrick Perkins and Glen Davis bring the young legs and energy.

New addition Marquis Daniels is an upgrade over Stephon Marbury as Rondo’s backup.

The Celtics were 41-9 and ahead of both the Lakers and Cleveland with the best record in the league when Garnett went down the first time, so they should be in the mix for the NBA’s best record if their Big 3 stay healthy. But each member of the Big Three is at least 32 years old and they have a combined 38 seasons under their belt – so it may be now or never for this group to win a second ring. Plus Allen and Rondo are in the final years of their contracts.
