Iverson likely down to either Knicks or Greece

Anyone want a future Hall of Famer and arguably the best-scoring player under 6-feet in NBA history?

Not when his name is Allen Iverson, apparently not. A.I. is having trouble finding work in the Association for next season. Perhaps it might have something to do with the fact the past few teams he has ended up on have gotten worse with Iverson in town and that he also quit on the Pistons last year when relegated to a sixth man role.

The Grizzlies, Clippers and Heat kicked the tires on Iverson, but that talk seems to have cooled.

Reportedly Knicks president Donnie Walsh recently met with Iverson’s agent Allen Rose to discuss Iverson joining the Knicks. But why would the Knicks want another prima donna guard after finally purging Stephon Marbury?

Plus New York reportedly prefers Bucks restricted free agent guard Ramon Sessions, who is just 23 and now certainly has more upside – and a better attitude. Bet on NBA futures at WagerWeb.com.

Now comes word that Athens-based Olympiakos is supposedly offering $10 million for two years for Iverson, which is a commitment he certainly won’t get in the NBA.

Olympiakos already has tried to get the Knicks’ Nate Robinson and David Lee, the Denver Nuggets’ Linas Kleiza and Sessions to no avail. On the plus side, Iverson would undoubtedly start for the team and be the featured player offensively with the green light to do as he pleases.

The Knicks would sign Iverson only if coach Mike D’Antoni endorsed the move. Iverson, 34, has a history of clashing with head coaches, which would obviously concern D’Antoni. However, there is also a feeling that Iverson will thrive in D’Antoni’s free-flowing offense. Iverson would only get a one-year deal from New York, which wants to have as much cap space as possible for next season’s free-agent class.
