Peavy to make White Sox debut this weekend
It’s a little too late to help the Chicago White Sox with a playoff push, but former NL Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy will get in a few starts for the White Sox this year, beginning Saturday against the Royals – bet on the game at WagerWeb.com.
Peavy hasn’t pitched in more than three months because of ankle and right elbow injuries. Despite him being sidelined with San Diego, that didn’t stop the White Sox from pulling the trigger on a trade right at the deadline.
“I expect to win Saturday, and we’ll have a few more starts and put to bed, hopefully, all this injury stuff. I’ll show up and be ready to go at spring training,” Peavy said. “Stranger things have happened, and if we get to the postseason, I’ll be fine and ready for that as well.”
Peavy nearly was ready to return from the ankle injury and was making what was supposed to be his last rehab start from the ankle problem on Aug. 24, he was hit with a comebacker in the right elbow, setting back his return another few weeks.

But after throwing a second bullpen session in Anaheim over the weekend and not feeling any soreness during the day off Monday, the Sox announced that Peavy would make his debut Saturday.
”I think that’s what we were looking for a long time, before he got hit by the ball,” manager Ozzie Guillen said. ”It’s been like two weeks when he was supposed to be on the mound. It will be interesting.”
Peavy is expected to be on a pitch count of about 70-75, considering his last two bullpen sessions were the equivalent of throwing four innings or so.
”I don’t expect to be 100 percent. I’m not 100 percent. I would be lying if I told you I was,” he said.
Peavy’s second start is scheduled for Sept. 25 against American League Central leader Detroit.
