Wednesday MLB: Baltimore Orioles (16-23) at New York Yankees (22-17)
They’re back!
The New York Yankees have taken off since Alex Rodriguez made his season debut, with the Bombers currently on a seven-game winning streak and just 3.5 games behind first-place Toronto in the AL East.
The Yanks are -145 money line favorites on WagerWeb.com to make it eight tonight against the Baltimore Orioles.
Rodriguez homered for the fourth straight game on Tuesday as the Yankees crushed Baltimore 9-1. It’s the eighth time in his career he has homered in at least four consecutive games, ranking first among active players.
“It’s just good to contribute,” Rodriguez said. “When you’re winning games, there’s a lot of good stories to be written about everybody. Everyone’s playing well, and I’m just happy to be in the mix.”

Five of Rodriguez’s seven hits since returning from the disabled list have been home runs, and he is batting just .194 in 36 at-bats despite 10 walks. But his being in the lineup has spurred Mark Teixeira too, as the first baseman is hitting .341 with six homers and 15 RBIs in 11 games since A-Rod’s return.
Baltimore starts right-hander Jeremy Guthrie (3-3, 5.21) tonight. He has allowed four runs or more in four of his last six starts with his team losing five times.
New York goes with Phil Hughes (1-7. 7.56), who might be about to lose his rotation spot with Chien-Ming Wang close to coming back. In his last outing, Hughes allowed three runs in five innings but wound up with a no-decision against the Twins. He faced Baltimore on May 9, allowing eight runs over 1 2-3 innings in a 12-5 loss.
Baltimore hasn’t won a series on the road since the first week of the season, and the Orioles have posted a 7-14 record thus far against American League East division rivals. They’re also 5-12 on the road, a mark that stands with Minnesota and Oakland among the worst in the league. Baltimore has lost 10 of its past 13 games in New York.
